Re: Motortrend SUV OTY - What a joke!

The guys at Motortrend are CAR guys. They don't get what a Jeep truly is all about. No shock here.

Re: Motortrend SUV OTY - What a joke!

I owned a new 2004 Cayenne Turbo, and a new 2006 Range Rover Sport. None of them compare to the JGC in the snow, in fact one of the reasons I sold the Cayenne Turbo was that I slid through an intersection when there was only 1-2 inches of snow while my ******* was puckering. Although the 500 HP twin turbo was definately fast, but only on dry pavement though.
The Range Rover had so many problems that corporate took it back under the lemon law.
I will definately stay with Jeep.

What kind of tires did you have on the thing? Sliding through a stop is more indicative of improper or worn tires than it is the efficacy of the AWD system. I'd anticipate the turbo model coming with summer-only rubber on it, and those would certainly be worthless in the snow.

Not saying this was the case with Fortilais, but some people just forget that no matter how much you paid for your car, how sophisticated your 4WD/ABS system is, how good your tires are - LAWS OF PHYSICS STILL APPLY! If it is slippery and you are going too fast you will slid through that intersection. I see this all the time in winter. The solution is simple: slow down.

No offense to the JGC, but if the price is not real issue, then the new Porsche Cayenne or VW Tourareg are really one step ahead. The Engines are top, the automatic transmission (8 Gear) is one of the best and the integration of the electronic with GPS, surround camera, ... is realy nice and maybe two steps ahead. On the other side, in the US the JGC is nice priced (but not in europe) and has a lot of more or less important features included and for me, i like the JGC design.

Its a Sport Utility Award and there will be more then just one Award. I'm sure the JGC will win some(or more) in the future.

I can't argue there....... the JGC has some way to go in the driveline before it could be termed "best" of anything.

Good value for money and properly off-road capable maybe.... but not best.

They even said in the article that the Porsche is a crossover, and it's "almost" as capable off road as a "real" SUV. So... it's not a REAL SUV, but wins the SUVOTY award. Derrrr.

They're also giving huge credit for the "we might sell 50 of these per year" hybrid version.

Porsche Cayenne S Rally Editions, own (7 out of the top 10 finishers) the Trans Siberian (4500 Mile) Endurance Rally. I guess that makes them almost pretty capable

Price wise...make mine a WK2.

I have no problem with the Cayenne winning. Amazing vehicle. I do think the WK2 exterior looks better though.

I agree...V-8 hemi with its seriously out dated 5-speed has comparably poor acceleration and MPG. It's also much too heavy. Both the V-6 Cayenne and Touareg have lost 500 lbs. since last year's models and have the new ZF 8-speed. Better MPG and acceleration while maintaining serious off road cred.

Forgot to mention that the owner [hopefully he knows more than the dolt sales staff] of my local Jeep dealership said that the 2012 GCs will have the 8-speed and be available in July of 2011. I for one am going to wait before I order.
