Thats actually a good point. I wonder why they removed that feature anyway?

They said they did it to increase the size of the rear window to allow for better visibility out back.

Gotcha.. Just reviewed that part again, and unless I am blind, I don't see a difference (with the exception of the small handle underneath the wiper)

Yeah I agree, I don't see much difference either. I think that was just their excuse to save a few bucks.

That, or there is some sort of leaking problem that would cost more to fix than it would be to eliminate it all together.

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

I had a 13' with the flipper glass and now own a 14' without. There is a pretty good difference in rear visibility without that huge bulge of the 13' glass. I don't miss the flipper at all.....

Well then, someone who has had both chimes in. Personally, and from the video, it doesn't look like any sort of difference would have been made, but then again, I just have the 13.

Just out of curiosity, is it just the handle that is removed, or is there additional differences?

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

Someone with access to both would have to measure, but on other vehicles I had with flipper glass, a good portion of the glass was actually blacked out to hide the pistons that held the glass up. On the interior, the tailgate trim had to make room for the pistons.

Can someone explain what is so great about the flipper glass!? I apparently have it on my 2011 Ltd and have never used it and not sure when I would!

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

I had the flipper glass on my 2012 Overland and I do miss it on my 2014 Summit. I would use it everyday I drove it. Now I know that power assist hydraulic strut that now opens and closes the liftgate will fail a lot sooner due to the elimination of the flipper glass.

But then again, I will be getting rid of this thing way before the original warranty expires.
