Wow really goes to show how much difference a tranny makes.
No, they didn't say that. It's not true either.

I didn't hear them say it either, but there times are a lot slower than expected. Car and driver was only 1/10 slower to 60 with the 2011. I'm curious to see what they got with the old trans to see the difference. I wouldn't be surprised if it is as quick as the old Hemi 5spd combo though.

Truck Trend tested a Ram V6 against a F150. The Ram did 0-60 in 7.4 and the 1/4 in 15.7. It also weighs 300+ lbs. more than a V6 GC. If the GC can match those times, then the V6 8spd is quicker than last years hemi. Still waiting to see what the new 8sp Hemi combo does.

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

Here's another review that came out a couple weeks ago (not sure if it's been posted before), but it mentions that the new V6/8 speed combo is 2 tenths faster than last years hemi. Also included their review of the new UConnect system and gauge cluster which shows pretty much all the menus and gives a good idea of the customization.

And still, nobody gives credit to the 3.45 rear which replaced the 3.09. They did just the opposite with the HEMI.

It goes to show the power of marketing. Jeep brags about the new 8 speed and never really mentions the change in the rear gear ratio. It is the change in the rear that should also get most of the credit for the increased towing capacity.

The rear gear is nowhere as significant as the 4.70:1 first gear of the new trans. That's also why the new Hemi should be significantly quicker. The old trans was like a 3.00:1.

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

I use the flipper glass a lot. For example, when my dog is in the back and I run inside the store, I park the Jeep in shade and leave the glass open so my dog does not die of heat. LOL.

Other times, it is easy just to open it and put some small objects in rather than opening the whole door. Last week, I purchased some stuff at Home Depot that was too long to fit in the Jeep even with seats folded. Having the flipper glass open and it sticking out made it convenient. Not sure how I would have driven with the entire hatch open.

There are lots of advantages having a flipper glass, but like someone said and I agree, Fiat decided to remove that to save few $$$.

Cheers,
-A

Except with the Hemi they went from a 3.45 to 3.09.

The rear is significant because it remains the same through all gears. If they had left the 3.09 with the new tranny, there would not be such an improvement in the low end acceleration, and it wouldn't have the new tow capacity. They would most likely still have a tow mode.

But, it is what it is, and for the most part everything is working.

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

I use the flipper glass at least once per week... usually for putting small packages in. I would also imagine it is handy if you have a trailer hooked on or especially a hitch rack.

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

When I was working I used it all the time to toss a briefcase and laptop in the back. It helps in so many ways there are days I'm sorry I didn't get a '13. I usually get over it though.

The Hemi had a 3.00 first gear before. The 3.49 combined with the 4.70 first is not practical. The 3.09 with the new 1-5 gears is still lower than what it was before. I agree that the rear gear is always there, but there is such a huge ratio spread now. The gears are not only lower, but much more closely spaced. This is why it makes the bigger difference, not the rear gear ratio. You have to look at the total gear ratio in each gear now. Do that and see how much it really affects things.

Re: Motorweek 2014 Review

This was one of the best reviews of the rig that I have seen. Brought up some good points about the different suspension settings in different situations (i.e. wheel travel etc etc)

Thanks for posting.
