Well, it's not going to drop that much, but I get the point. The 1st year is where they biggest hit occurs.

Re: My 2 Choices!

If you do one of the group buys then a New JGC isnt that far off from a used one.

I bought my 2015 Overland at River Oaks in Houston. After all the discounts and incentives, my jeep ended up being the same price as a used 2014 that had 13k miles. PLUS mine had the Adv Tech Package. I ended up getting a better car for the same price as a used one.

It all depends on how you shop and what you can find.

Lol .. Not quite 20k but if it was ... Not being in the vicinity of your body odor or whatever else emanates from people's disgusting bag of organs is worth the premium. I purchase and keep my cars 3-4 years and have yet to have any issues with depreciation. I might change my mind once I get rid of the summit in 2 years... But that still won't convince me to buy used. If this jeep burns me that bad I'll just go back to merc and forget my one night stand with the homely girl who has a great personality.

Re: My 2 Choices!

I bought a used 2015 driven for 6 months and 6K KM. The window sticker was $72K. The purchase was $20K less. Driven by a lady and even purchased extended warranty and then let it go.

So yeah $20K depreciation is correct up North. For that much money saved I got tints, mats, paint protection film, and will buy more extended warranty when hers runs out. Then I'll take a vacation with the fam.

I'll even smell her fart if I had to.

Lol... Lady farts are ok I guess... All right you convinced me. I'll pay for a thorough background check and odor analysis before purchasing my next used vehicle.

Re: My 2 Choices!

But seriously, this is actually my first used vehicle purchase. My wife disagreed and rolled her eyes. But then I couldn't fathom paying $70K upwards towards $80K here in Canada when I saw the same vehicles' pricing almost one year later.

So while I put a downpayment on a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring/Elite and waiting for delivery, I was keeping my eye out on a used 2015 HA model.

Then bam! This one showed up. Put a reservation and negotiated over the phone. Told the dealer to do a once over for me and let me know based on my expectations if there are scratches, etc so we don't both waste our time.

Went in person to check it out myself - test drive, scrutinize inside and out - and drove off with it.

It's all about timing and setting your level of expectation for the kind of vehicle and level of trim you want.

That's the biggest thing I've experienced with buying used cars/trucks. When you buy used, you can have certain things you "have to have", or certain things that are deal breakers, but you can't really have a specific list of every feature and every option. If the timing is right, you'll find one that has all the must have features with none of the deal breaker items. When you buy new you just tell them specifically what you want, and they either find one that's already made, or they order one the way you want it. You pay that premium (my previously mentioned "drive off the lot fee") to get exactly what you want, and no concerns of somebody farting it up. Though to be fair there's no guarantee that the trucker didn't fart in it when they were loading/unloading the truck.

Seriously though. Timing, and how particular you are about features is a huge factor when buying used.
