I heard the unmistakable wop-wop-wop and started looking around and sure as ____ I finally caught a glimpse of her slipping between two hill tops. I thought only the jarheads were still running those. Then again, about 6 months ago I was mess'n around in the boonies and a Sea Stallion came over at about 500 feet and I got indecently excited. But my bestest whirly-bird sighting on this side of the pond....4 years ago....I was walking across a parking lot with my wife in north austin, I froze in place and dam near sharted myself while I watched a Mil-24 make a slow and easy traverse across the tree-tops. That is/was one sexy and terrifying beast. Musta been op-for or some such fun-ness. (my wife was so very patient with me while I drolled on and on for hours about what marvels she had just witnessed...she was not nearly as impressed....sigh)
I've got flight time in AH-1's, AH-64's, OH-58's, and UH-1's. My last 18 years was in the Apache. HOWEVER, I think my favorite to fly is the Ol' Heuy. Pretty forgiving in the controls, hard to get "Behind" the aircraft. Without full attention - an Apache can get "Ahead" of you pretty quick!! Flew from 1970 to 2004 - last flight was in an Apache in Iraq in 2004.
