Re: My early impressions

Where'd you order yours from? I tried a few dealers in the area and none of them seemed interested to put out an order. Got online and found one in Clovis I liked and a few in El Paso but none of the dealers are trading either. Ended up just driving the three hours to Clovis.

Re: My early impressions

The color is outstanding on that vehicle, but it's begging for some tint on the front windows.

Re: My early impressions

I like my Laredo too, I am leasing and prefer not to pay much on my lease for extra options. It is great car, things I like the most:

- Better engine than my former Laredo 2008, more power with about same mileage/gallon.
- Quiet and smooth ride, much less noise inside
- Comfortable seats and overall better smarter design of anything
- Spare tire inside car, bigger cargo.
- Great small steering wheel with controls for radio. Fog lights option!
- Perfect climate controls, on dash information
- Large gas tank!

Do not like much:

- Old same as in 2008 radio in new car, antenna is horrible, noisy FM same as in 2008
- No jack for iPod in Laredo, it is time to have it in any car
- Front passenger seat should be buttons controlled it is 2011 and any car should
have this
- Noise from spare tire on bumps.

Re: My early impressions

I love that color, and without QL you could install and traditional lift when they become available.

Two thumbs up on the added pics! The green looks really good on that vehicle with the landscape of NM as a backdrop.

Re: My early impressions

There should be an iPod jack in your armrest. There's one in our Laredo X.

Day three stuff

Today I had planned to remove the air dam and try some of our primitive roads. About all the book says is that you need to remove the seven 1/4 turn fasteners. Sounds pretty trivial, I figured about 2 or 3 minutes. The fasteners did come off in a straight-forward way but the air dam was still firmly attached.

Considerable jiggling and shaking followed. Everything is pretty flexible so the dam and the bumper cover were both jiggling a lot but staying firmly attached to each other. I couldn't find a hint anywhere in what direction things should be coaxed to get separation. It turns out there are many different tabs and slots and most of them lock together. The ends of the dam need to be pulled forward and the rest of the air dam needs to be pulled up and forward as the tabs on the front of the air dam are pointing down at about 45 degrees. Quite a bit of force is necessary.

A ran several errands with the air dam off, glancing at the front of the car when I was out of it to see how things look. Things don't look great, especially the inner fender insulation that just hangs down below everything else.

I decided I would put the thing back on. This is considerably more difficult and a lot of light is necessary to get things lined up. All those tabs in the front have to be bent up with a screwdriver (at least that is what I came up with) to get them to go in the slots. A good fist bang seemed to be necessary to get the locking portion to go in.The slots are long so you can get all the tabs in and the fasteners won't go until you bang things back and forth. The fasteners aren't too bad along the front because you can see them, the ones in the fender wells are more challenging.

The whole deal took about 10 times longer than expected and kind of put me off the idea of doing it routinely although now that I know how it works it should be a lot easier.

Things are really flexible down there, especially in front of the tires and I wonder how important it is to actually remove it. It may be more to improve the approach angle figures than to actually help. It looks like it would flex over the odd rock that it might hit.

During all this I also installed the Lockpick. The installation and firmware update went pretty easily and the tip to start the trim removal at the bottom with the cubby door open was very useful.

The Lockpick works with the 430N as reported. The speed on the GPS does not display. Although I'm not interested in the feature I was not able to get the back-up camera to turn on while in forward motion. The instructions to double punch the Uconnect button activates the Uconnect. I also tried double punching the on/off knob because in some of the instructions that activates functions but for me it just turned the unit off. Everything else works as advertised.

Now I'm starting to look at how to remove the headliner for antenna installation. I sure wish the service manual was available.

Yeah, I know, someone is going to ask for pictures of the air dam removal and vehicle with it off. I would have done that if I would have known that the procedure wouldn't be that easy. For right now, I'm kind of disinclined to take it all apart again.

Re: My early impressions

To get it in neutral just put the transfer case in neutral like you're going to flat tow it.
