Re: My First Jeep

From my personal experience, I wish I had gone with the Hemi when I bought my wk2. My Pentastar just took a crap and even with chrysler's extended warranty/TSB, dealers didn't want to touch it, which seemed very odd and disturbing.

Many told me I would be Chrysler's guinea pig when I bought the Pentastar but I love the new wk2 so much I pulled the trigger.

My overall experience was extremely pleasant up until my engine issues. You can find my other thread to get an idea of what I just experienced that led me to trade my wk2 for a highlander.

Wk2 are very comfy and attractive. Pentastar v6 is plenty powerful for daily use and has enough power to just get up and go. It's by no means fast but it gets the job done. My 2011 had that weird shifting issue where tranny would be confused and downshift hard time to time. If it wasn't for poor dealer customer service and chrysler's neglecting attitude, I would have bought another one. Great SUV and plenty fun to drive. Be sure to buy extended warranty and make sure you have a really good dealer otherwise you're in for a surprise. Good luck with the hunt.

There are 2WD versions and I assume they don't have that. Don't know if QT1 systems (4WD systems) have it either. I believe all QT2 and QD2 (Limited and above) have it. Eco mode isn't something you select on the 2011-2013. The Eco indicator lights up when you're driving optimally for fuel economy. It does it even in sports mode.

My 2004 mustang didn't cost me any repairs except for brake pads and other common maintenance items until the year I paid it off and then things started going. 5 years of no major issues (i bought the 04 mustang in 08 with 74,000 km) seemed pretty good to me. Could I expect the same results from a Grand Cherokee?
I mean, reliability is an issue with most of the high performance SUVs from what I've seen, whether Jeep, Land Rover or Porsche Cayenne. I got a lifetime Maxcare warranty from Jeep to cover the possibility of breakdowns. That said, some people have no problems, others have tons of issues, and of course many have something in the middle. I had my first real problem at 34k miles - a dead water pump replaced under warranty. Now, I bought it used at 22.5K miles, so no idea if something happened earlier. I will say that the Jeep extended warranty is one big reason I'm sticking with Jeep. I drive a huge amount (like over 2000 miles/month) so something like a 50k mile warranty (from Porsche) would be gone in a few years.
