My jack buckled ('14 Overland) - warranty?

So I walked out to a completely flat tire on Saturday over the weekend. I was out of town at my sister's wedding.

'14 Overland with 4,000 miles.

No biggie. So I break out the full size spare tire and the factory jack. Half-way through the jacking the damn jack buckles in half and breaks. I was on the slightest incline imaginable, not enough in my opinion for it to buckle over. We're talking very minor.

Unbelievable. You'd think a $50k vehicle would come with a competent jack that can lift 5,000lbs.

Luckily my dad was there and we used the jack from his VW Touareg TDI (genius design on that one, BTW) to take care of things.

Anyway, if I take the broken jack to to dealer will they replace it with a new one? Is that a warranty item?

I think I have read about this happening before. I would figure that it is under warranty.

Yikes. I'm gonna buy a small jack to replace the cheap one.

AAA membership! Maybe I'm lazy (maybe, hell yes I am). I haven't jacked up a car in 30 yrs.

Road side service, maybe. But sometimes you just can't wait for hours for a tow truck to arrive when you could just slap on the full size spare and be on your way. Of course that is not easy to do when your jack breaks! Yikes.

Do you have a photo of the jack? I'm just curious as to which way it bent and why.

On a new vehicle, it might not be warranty, but I'd sure as heck give the dealer a rough time about the jack.

When the jack buckled, did the vehicle move forward, back, or pretty much straight down? One man's mild incline could be another man's [or jack's] cliff. Brakes on?

Haven't really looked at the thing to see if I'd trust it much. I have AAA but suspect some of my driving is in places they'd have trouble getting to or cell phone coverage would be spotty at best. Use a high lift Craftsman hydraulic at home, but a bit bulky to keep available when driving.

I wonder if this 3 ton bottle jack from Wally World would fit by the spare tire...

There might be room enough above the spare (in place of original jack) or in those 2 storage wells next to spare.

Thanks, that looks like it might be a good idea.

FYI, Amazon is a tad cheaper than Walmart, Sears is same price.

I usually put a block of heavy plastic wrapped in leather at the top to avoid scuffing paint.

Invest in small set of wheel chocks or make some. Most likely rolled some as you were heading up.

When j use floor jack it niches/rolls at it lifts but stationary jack requires stationary vehicle.
