My Last post on Jeep Garage

I am frustrated and angry. I'm angry that after a year and 20K miles three dealers and Jeep can not get the bugs worked out. This time in was for another transmission and Uconnect flash, the erattic AC, a water pump,(they dropped something on the front bumper and damaged it) replacement of a broken door handle(which they damaged the drivers interior panel requiring a new one)and a manifold sensor for the check engine light. They needed to replace the back up camera but it is back ordered.Plus several new items.
I was about to trade it on on a New Summit but had second thoughts. I thought I'd give the dealer a second chance to redeem it's self concerning service.
On the way home I was able to use the Uconnect for the first time. But the tranny jerked worse than it did before I had taken it in. The ac would only blow on the floor and top of the dash.
I can't take it anymore with my Limited or Jeep Dealer service and I'm to scared to go with the Summit.
I'm angry because I've had some really great times with this Jeep. I did a lot of upgrades. I love the way it looks sitting still and on the road. It has the most comfortable ride of any vehicle I have ever owned. But I can't go through another summer with not knowing when the ac is going to cycle out.The jerk and the hard downshifts from the transmission will drive me nuts. But at least the Uconnect is working.

While waiting in the service lane a new Overland owner pulled in and we talked. He said he had a concern about a harsh shifting transmission.12/13 build date. He said he was told it was just computer flash and asked me if I have had a problem with my transmission. I just said I gotta go.

With this 14 JGC and my 2010 I have enjoyed reading all the post. I'll probably check in now and again. I wish everyone well !

I'm picking up a new Volvo on Friday. If I have problems with it at least I'll have a free loaner.

Re: My Last post on Jeep Garage

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I know lemons happen with all vehicles but what I don't understand is the 2014 is not that much different than the 2011 --- it is a mid-model refresh --- so why have a number of people had such issues on the earlier 2014 builds. It is just a mid-model refresh and shouldn't have any major issue as all the items are proven to be reliable from the transmission, to the electronics, etc. that have been used for year(s) in other vehicles.

I am beginning to think that the early 2014's were released a tad early for minor adjustments but the major issues people are blaming on the "released too early" 2014's are really just the random draw of a lemon. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I am very sorry to hear this.

Seems like you gave it plenty of time to get sorted. Bloody Shame.
Good luck with your next ride.
Drive safe.

Greetings,

I was speaking with my service tech a few weeks ago when I went in for some routine service and I asked him about the 2014. He said the early one's had a lot of little problems that should have been corrected before they went out the dealer door. The more recent ones have been corrected at the factory. Overall, he said it is still likes the GC.

The wired part of this is, three service centers could not get it right and what has corporate done. On the 2014 3.6, their are 2 RRT's posted for the transmission. Sometimes the manufacture will send the regional engineering down to assist.

My 2011 is an Aug 2010 built and biggest worry was being the 1st year of the new generation I would have problems. To date, with over 38K on it, I only had problems with the wheel bearings. They gave me a rental and waited for the parts to come in a few days back in the fall of 2012.

Best for now.

You hate to see this happen. My Summit was one of the first built as many of you know. 14,000 miles and not a single issue, only had it in for oil changes and updates. I don't know how to explain that but it is a flawless very early build so I don't think you can make a generalization there.

Good luck with the new ride and stay in touch.

It's too bad things like this happen. I would not be so concerned with the problems as the lack of solutions and the less than professional work at the dealership.

Good luck with the Volvo ... and may you never need that loaner.

I'm sorry to hear that you have had so much trouble with your Jeep. I am having the fishbite problem with no projected correction date from Jeep.

Sadly, you may be jumping from the frying pan to the fire. I am the less than happy owner of a Volvo S80 and had I not bought a very extended warranty (125,000) I would be bankrupt today just paying for all the repairs it has needed. I hope your experience is better.

What can a person buy that runs as advertised?

Not sure how you can say this. The 2011-2013's used a 5 speed and 6 speed transmission in the V6 and V8 respectively. The 2014's use two new 8 speed transmissions. A lot of the early issues were shifting problems, especially in the V6 version. Not as certain about the electronics, but the difference in them between my my12 and my14 seems to indicate a fair number of changes there as well.

Isn't it true that the new transmissions for the 2014's is actually a very well established transmission used for years in other vehicles which is why Jeep changed to it? So, mostly a software issue for Jeep.

My point is, the early release of the 2014 had quite a few minor issues that shoulda been resolved before release. Now they are resolved for the vast majority. But the major issues are just a random draw that almost any car manufacturer has but we seem to be blaming it on the 2014 release when in fact the 2014 isn't that major of a change.

Sorry to see you go! I actually came from the Volvo family, I love mine, I had a 2010 S40 T5R. I had every mod you could put on it and I loved every second of it.

I would agree - my Summit is a March build with minor problems as well that were resolved in 2 visits early on. Just turned 12k and haven't had it in for anything other than Oil.

Re: My Last post on Jeep Garage

Sorry to hear you had such a bad owning experience...I know EXACTLY how you feel.

The first 9 months or so I owned my early build 2014 V6 4x4 Limited, I had a number of issues...mostly with the transmission. After fighting with multiple dealerships to perform TSBs and lodging complaints to Chrysler Customer Care, I finally got my GC to run correctly...then last week I got a check engine light out of the blue, and the transmission was stuck in "Sport" mode.

That was the last straw...so last weekend I went new car shopping. Looked at the Ford Explorer...not impressed, then I looked at an F-150 Lariat Supercab Eco-boost...cheap interior, bad gas mileage, and too expensive. I even took a trip to an Audi dealership to check out a Q5...too small and expensive for what you get. Then just for heck of it I checked out a Jeep dealership I've never been to before. To my surprise I was offered an amazing offer on a a late build (12/21/13) 2014 V6 4x4 Overland in Granite...less than a "Tread Lightly" price, and I got top dollar for my trade.

I pick it up tomorrow...and you can bet I will be going over it with a fine toothed comb before I sign the papers!
