My navigation is dumb. Help!

Hi guys. The nav on my 14 overland refuses to route onto highways and only takes surface streets. I have searched all the settings over and over and cant figure out why it would do this. Any help is much appreciated!!!

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

There are settings such as "avoid tolls" and the like. Have you checked those?

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

Same problem here with my 14 Durango. Today heading from Philly to NJ on I95 in PA it made me get off exit 27 just to loop around and get back on to 95 again. I figured it maybe thought there was traffic, but no traffic was shown on Google Maps. I do not use the Nav that often but this is the second time this has happened. Very Strange.

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

There is a convoluted way in getting to those settings. The easiest way I know of (or maybe the only way) is for you to enter a destination then just about when you get the large green button with YES for "Start Routing" to go into options settings on THAT screen and that screen only and tweak your route settings from there.

From the regular navi menus like MAP settings (Zoom, Details etc) and whatever the other one is, you will NOT get to your routing guidance options.

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

The choices I get are Fastest, Shortest, and Economical.

As mentioned, press options before pressing yes to set for current trip.

If you tried the above below is my experience and what cured the NAV.

I had problems for a long time with my '14 Limited. The problem was the TMC avoidance was on for one or more items including traffic. You have to find this under nav/settings/guidance. There are a few settings that will reroute the jeep based on traffic, even if the traffic isn't really obvious. Once I turned those all off I regained control of my NAV.

This of course assumes you have this feature, otherwise can't help you.

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

Set a destination to anywhere; then you'll get the "options" menu choice - go there and make sure you've got "Fastest" route set; not "Shortest". If you leave it on the latter, it'll route you off a major highway onto a side street if it calculates that would make your trip 20 feet shorter, regardless of the additional time it will consume.

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

Mine was doing the same until I discovered the reason for it. For every small traffic jam it was rerouting me. In NYC there is no such thing as no traffic.

Solution? There is an option somewhere in the map settings to "avoid by delay", punched in 15 minutes and all is good now.

Re: My navigation is dumb. Help!

Yep - that too. The traffic avoidance is usually delayed info and causes more problems than it solves...in urban areas there is always construction (even minor) and of course accidents. My problem was it would re-route and re-route constantly giving me odd routes...I turned that off.
