My new JGC 2015 Overland first impressions

I got my new toy almost a week a go now. I switched from an Overland 2011. Here are my initial impressions:

(Overland 2015 V8 model + tech package)
  • Lets put that in front first: I LOVE it
  • The new 8 tranny is a charm. Ultra smooth, excellent acceleration but I must admit that I have been gentle with it so far since I'm still in the breakin mileage range. Surprisingly, at very low speed, it manages to run in the 7-8th speed at 1300-1500 RPM. I noticed downshifts more than I felt them before in the 5th speed tranny (when coming to a stop).
  • The seats and wheel are much faster to heat compared to my previous vehicle. They're also very performant to a point where I need to put the temp at low or it feels too hot to my taste. That is a good news, especially since my former passenger seat was passable at most.
  • I have not found that confirmation anywhere but I feel the steering wheel is slightly smaller in our hands. The previous one felt huge, this one, feels different. Color perception maybe ? Does anyone know?
  • The Uconnect 8.4AN is a HUGE upgrade. It is a world of difference and improvement with the 730RHR. Looks awesome, very user friendly and responsive. However, in Canada we don't have HD radio neither Apps
  • The new electronic instrument panel is a joy. I like it much better than the previous one. Elegant, cute, customizable. I would have prefer a full electronic panel but there must be a reason why they have kept a few hardware gages (fuel, RPM, temp, etc)
  • It looks like they worked the internal noise a bit. I feel less noise than in the 2011. The tranny does the difference maybe?
  • The missing flipper glass is... a shame. Really, I'll miss that one
  • Such a smooth ride, really.
Voilà!

I also came from an 11 overland Hemi. Most of your early impressions mirror mine. My favorite differences were minor. I really loved the new headlights and how the 8 speed works with the hemi.

Anyway, glad you like your new jeep! It's an awesome vehicle.

Pics???

Congrats on the new Jeep! I have a 2014 Cherokee that ended up being a lemon. I'm in talks with Chrysler now to spend more money for an Overland. However, quick question. Does your Overland have the "LaneSense" feature? My Cherokee will turn the wheel if I begin to veer off the road. Does your Overland have this same feature? I want the bigger vehicle but I can't seem to lose features while spending more money just for a bigger SUV. Either way, GOOD LUCK!!

I don't think any of the grand cherokees (2014, 2015) have this feature, but definitely recommend the GC.

No lane sense. Does have warnings for little bitty cars driving in the lane next to you.

Once past a few hundred miles, suggest some spirited full throttle runs for the OP.
In ECO mode, and out of ECO mode. Don't recommend babying that transmission during break in, as it doesn't need it and can easily handle the V8 power.

Re: My new JGC 2015 Overland first impressions

Owners manual says "short full throttle acelleration (within legal limits) is recommended during break-in" ( once fully warmed up, of course).

No lane assist indeed.
Pics will come eventually when the weather allows for it. January in Canada is really messy...

In the meantime this one is close from the real

I really like the light frost brown interior btw and i've installed weathertech beige slush mats

Re: My new JGC 2015 Overland first impressions

Very nice. Did you get funky with the interior colors or stick to the standard Brown or Black?

Kind of strange but the salesman in Calgary told me the same thing. The steering wheel gives a small turn the opposite direction when you drift accross the line. My wife's car starts beeping. My buddy seat in his GM truck vibrates. But I guess the GC does nothing. :-(

It would be impossible to get a good picture of mine either. The roads are a muddy mess here as well.

Re: My new JGC 2015 Overland first impressions

The first thing that i hate, the ring tone. It is too loud and nerve breaking, every time that i'm getting a call i come close to an accident and heart attack.

Is there a way to change the ring tone at least?
