Navigation and bluetooth

So who has a 2011, and how are you liking the navigation system? Does it work well, is it easy to use while driving, etc?

Also, how is the bluetooth? Can you dial people easily while driving, or must you pull over to do it? Can you have presets like "home"?

I have not seen any reviews mentioning those things. They are very important features to me, as I use those on my current car daily. You can't really get a feel for those during a test drive either.

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

I believe you can't input directions in the 730 nav while driving manually, only through voice. Not sure on the garmin 430. Anyone know?

No voice programming of the nav on the 430N. Manual only.

Yeah but can you input a new address while driving or do you have to be in park?

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that it has to be in park. My Garmin 255w will not let you enter addresses in it while moving without overriding the safety.

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

I don't mind putting it in park to put in address. That is pretty standard on all cars. Put in the address before you leave for a trip that you havent been on before, no big deal.

But I am really curious how the phone works. Voice controls SUCK and I dont want to bother with that... but is there a touch screen interface where you can click on "home" and it will dial home, while driving? That is crucial

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

uggh. that's the worst. The 730 nav is sounding a lot better now since you can enter nav info via voice, although i hear its cumbersome and no where near natural.

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

As far as inputting navigation while in motion or even watching DVDs in motion (yes your RER system has DVD playback capability but only while in park), it is possible for the 730N (RER) with either a Lockpick or an Allgig device. I highly recommend the Allgig because there have been several issues on the Ram forums with the lockpick cutting out from time to time and there is no way to upgrade the lockpick without uninstalling it and hooking the device up to a laptop whereas the Allgig has a USB cable that can be run so you have easy access for any software updates. The Allgig device can easily be installed by anyone and when installed, will allow manual input of navigation entries without using voice command for those that don't like voice command. Additionally, you will be able to watch DVDs while in motion if you so choose. The Allgig device is a simple plug and play requiring no cutting of wires or anything of the sort. The Allgig list price is $349.00 but it's for sale on the website below for $289.00. However, I have included Susanne's contact information and she's run specials on the Ram forums before for $199.00 which is what I paid. I installed it myself as you can see from the picture below and have been using it for 10 months now with no issues. I installed it right before a trip to Long Island NY from San Antonio, TX to pick-up my wife's stuff her parents still had in storage for her. I hope this helps some people who want to be able to input nav in motion along with DVD in motion. I have the same RER system in my 2009 Dodge Ram that is available in the 2011 JGC. To my knowledge there isn't one available yet for the 430N Garmin but I'm sure it's in the works.

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

I have the 730 in my limited installed Lockpick last week or so, and works great, no restrictions on anything while in drive, enter addresses while driving, my wife loves watching dvds while we are going places and, you can also change the setup, voice train, do whatever while driving works great. The sound is pretty good too I am glad I got the better radio and system.

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

Quick question: does inserting a DVD give you surround sound?

Whether is is "true" surround I am not sure. But i have tried several discs with 5.1 and 7.1 surround enabled and it does seem as though there is so pretty good surround. Not as good as the home theater but pretty good for a jeep on the highway!

Re: Navigation and bluetooth

Thanks, I haven't found a single reference to playing a disc in any thread or even the User's Guide, so I didn't know what to expect. I have a large collection of DVD-Audio high res surround discs, and thought it would be very nice to play them in the Jeep. Other manufacturers have this available, and I know that the headunits would accept them, just didn't know if they would play in surround or forced to stereo.
