need help with subwoofer install plz

i have a 2014 jeep grand cherokee Laredo with 8.4a and the base 6 speaker system im ok with the stock set up but just want to add a subwoofer so i ordered a rockford fosgate p300-12 its a powered subwoofer and has high level( speaker input ) option so correct me if im wrong but i dont need a LOC with this i just tap into my left and right speakers .

What i really need to know is do i tap into the rear speakers or or do i tap into front door 6x9's i read somewhere that tap into rear door speakers will cause problems because not full range ??? ( that which i read was a little older jeep with a 430N not an 8.4 like i have but i didnt know if same )

I wasn't even going to take door panels off i was going to pull lower side panels off by where they exit out to doors and tap into speaker wires there i found the wiring chart off wk2jeeps.com so i know the colors/or if i need to tap into fronts i will tap in by the kick panels

Will be greatly appreciated if i could get some input where to tap in
THX !!!

I'm pretty sure you need an amplifier and maybe a electronic crossover for that 12 to work properly. I would check with a professional installer before you start taking door panels apart. Maybe some one else can confirm?

Re: need help with subwoofer install plz

You should be fine running off the rears. They are full range. The front 6x9s either have a crossover or filter blocking the highs. Your sub has a crossover built in so best to give it full range signal. Make sure you use 8awg power wire as that is what it needs for 300 watts. No cheap wiring kits that say they are 8 gauge but look like 12 gauge. You will also need to find a switched power wire to use as the remote turn on. I used the cig lighter under the radio for my radar detector. If you're already in there might be easier to get the speaker wires behind the radio. The seat bolts are usually a good spot for a ground as well.

Re: need help with subwoofer install plz

Just read it has a smart turn on and off. Try it without the remote turn on. If it works correctly you won't have the pop noise when turning the ignition on or off.

Re: need help with subwoofer install plz

Greetings and welcome,

You are correct that an LOC is not needed with this powered subwoofer.

Rockford Fosgate® - RFTECH Support

However, the subwoofer does not have any high level outputs to be sent to the speakers. Ideally, you want to tap the front speakers in order to bring the bass sound forward. You have limited capabilities with this product. That is why many who upgrade the 6 speaker system go for a DSP for tuning and a 5 channel amp to get clean power. Thus the expense and that is what you are not looking for now.

To get the output signal going back to the stock speakers, you need to make a parallel connection from the speaker wires coming out of the HU. When you do this, their is a very good chance that will be a lose of signal power. Therefore, it would be better in this case to tap the rears. The rears are full range in the stock 6t speaker system. Whereas, the fronts uses a crossover network between the 6x9 and tweeter. If raise the volume to compensate if you did the front connection, you will start to have distortion. That is why you a better off taping the rears and the RF sub you can always adjust the volume as well.

Hope this helps.

Best for now.

You are correct about the crossover network.
