Need info on 2011 grand Cherokee purchase

Need info on 2011 Grand Cherokee purchase
I'm considering a 2011 Grand Cherokee purchase. This would be the 5th Jeep I've owned, the past were 2 Wranglers (Rubicon which is my daily driver, and the one I will never get rid of) and 2 Cherokees.

I test drove the laredo with the 3.6. Not bad, but I don't like not being able to shift from 2wd to 4 lo and hi. So I am now looking a limited or a used Overland w the 5.7.

My concern is the dependability of the 3.6 (I have read many horror stories) v the 5.7.

The 4x4 system of the laredo v the limited or overland. Is the laredo 4x4 worth a hoot ,being the design of a design where the computer decides when you need 4x4?

I will be towing a small trailer, maybe 1k pounds.
Some off road, but mainly will be the wife's commuter vehicle until the weekends. I know the 5.7 will consume more fuel but is the dependability better than the pentastar???

I thank you in advance for your help as always.

You cannot switch any of the systems to 2wd

Yeah, the base is full time 4WD, the upgrade is the full time 4WD plus 4WD lock with low range.

All are capable, but the wranglers are better on the challenging trails.

Re: Need info on 2011 grand Cherokee purchase

I have now spent a few hours reading every post on the different 4x4 systems and on a personal choice will be looking at the quad drive II system for the use of 4 low.

Now the decision is 6 or 8 cylinder???
Limited or used overland

Ugh, but thanks for the replies

Have V6 in Limited. 11,200 miles. No issues at all. Engine is OK for me and gas mileage is great. I had 750 lbs. of top soil in the back this spring and it drove as if it was empty.

Either will do. I think the Hemi has a better feel espically off road. When I test drove them the 6cyl seemed to struggle off the line. But that is my opinion..... You should test drive both of them and make up your own mind.

just fyi, that page suggests Quadra-Drive II is not available in the Laredo and only optional on Limited and Overlands. But it comes on the Laredo with the Weather or Offroad packages.

Oops. yes, I read "Quadra Drive II", but my brain said "Quadra Trac II".

Freedom-Drive, Quadra-Drive, Quadra-Trac, Command-Trac, Selec-Trac, Selec-Terrain, etc.... it all just blurs together after a while and leads to brain farts.
