Unless you paid cash, most people who buy don't own their Jeeps initially the bank does. Bank has title. Most usually take 4-5 year loans and most lease for 3 years and you have the option to purchase at that point. I purchased my '97 GC off a lease, because I got an incredibe negotiated deal, my 2011 I didn't buy off lease, because I really wanted the new 8-spd and improved audio/visual. Just saying.

In New York the title is in the buyers name, and is held by the buyer with the bank listed as a lienholder. The bank is not considered an owner and do not hold the title. When the loan is paid the bank sends a lien release to the owner.

With a lease, the dealer sells the car to the lease company. The lease company is named on and holds the title.

Fair enough, but either way if you stop making the payments the car is gone. It's really just a matter of semantics.

Whether your purchase or lease you have the ability to get rid of the car or keep it.

Of course you're "renting" the car. The question is whats the point you're trying to get at? How does me renting a car for 3 years and then getting a new one make any difference than buying a car and trading it in after 3 years? "Owning" it is just a mental thing. In reality, a lease is simply a method of financing the vehicle. Think of it as financing with a balloon option.

Just because he's leasing doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to be concerned with the vehicle's equipment and value.

Re: Need To Vent

Wisconsin title lists you as the owner, the bank as the lienholder. On a lease, the leasing company is listed as the owner, you as the leasee. The owner was mailed the original title to the vehicle.

Somewhere between 2008 (my last new purchase) and 2014 (my current lease) Wisconsin has decided to retain the original title to the vehicle until the lien is paid off or the lease terminates.

They've always been very touchy about releasing a lien from the title. If they do so inadvertently then the state is liable for any lien actually remaining on the vehicle. I suppose this gives them more control in preventing stuff like that from happening. It just feels weird not having that in my possession.

Re: Need To Vent

Hmm, does the GC have a dash readout telling the actual engine code when the vehicle throws a code? Just wondering, because my son's 10 year old PT Cruiser has this feature (I was surprised to learn this recently).

Anyway, features come and features go.

Re: Need To Vent

Heck my 88 Buick can do that (and display codes/parameters on the CRT in the dash, and clear the codes.). With my GC I need a smart phone (NA in 88).

Capable, arguably, but no more so than a Nissan Xterra.

OP has a point, the WK-2s are hideously expensive, with the Limited and Laredo seemingly aimed at the more hard core Jeep crowd and the Overland and higher aimed at the semi-luxo crowd. Pricier than pretty much all of the competition and even pricier than some really nice performance European sport coupes.

... and they do not appear to be gathering a lot of dust so someone must think they are worth it.

I want to like the Dart, I really do, since it is based on an Alfa platform albeit with a rather gutless engine and hopefully real Alfa's don't handle that sloppily.

I'd really like a Hellcat, but I live in Colorado where their life expectancy appears to be less than an hour...

If you got the pano sunroof, at least you can really vent...

Crossovers are egregiously overpriced, and SUVs with real 4x4 capability are even more egregiously overpriced. Why? Because more people want them than want ordinary vehicles and will pay a significant premium for them. Some have been credited with literally saving a company's bottom line due to this. Only pickups tend to have a worse want vs need ratio and their prices are starting to reflect this as well.

Life sucks... I want a real Ferrari 4x4 and a summer house on Mount Evans...
