New '14 Overland Owner

Long time lurker here. Read many posts here before I decided to take plunge and get 14 Overland. I ended up getting Blk/Blk 4wd 3.6L with Advanced Tech package. I paid 46025 before TTL (Invoice 46533, MSRP 48985), slightly below invoice. It was supposed to be 45430 but they added in a bs prep fee of 595 when I was ready to sign. Should have fought them but excitement of my first new car got better of me and the wife. I did get a good deal on the maxcare though and tire protection. So far has 500 miles and the city mpg has been lacking, getting about 13-14, hopefully it gets better. Had some minor glitches with the Uconnect system not saving presets and some bugs with the iphone but otherwise the Jeep has been sweet for my first new car. Finally gave her first wash today and took some pics, dont mind background its at my parents house that just had a huge fire so its a mess there.

Mods up next
-Get new license plate holders pref black ones, since I'n blacking everything out
-debadge overland and 4x4, black out rest of emblems 2xJeep and 2x Grand Chrokee on doors
-Tint all rear windows darker, and get the fronts about the darkness of the factory rear, i think its 20%
-illuminated Jeep door sills
-Black out some of the chrome
-might look into getting some sort of step boards not sure yet
-Change ebrake pedal to match

Next to my parents ML

Love the look of the new front

Mods i've done so far: mopar pedals, mopar entry guard sills, mopar slush mats (front, rear, cargo)

Reflection pic off hood, I tried out meguiars NXT 2.0 wax

Another reflection pic

First time trying wax on a car so I was nervous, I also bought DA polishing tool for cordless drill so I'll try doing whole Jeep this weekend, should I use a claybar first?

Re: New '14 Overland Owner

46 was including the max care? Cause I was quoted 43 for overland with tech package at East Hills on long island.

I didnt buy yet, so no other BS fees. I could see it going to 46 with a maxcare, and some prep crap.

Looks great... I have never heard of or paid a prep free for any new vehicle I have bought. Sounds like a rip to me. They are selling the vehicle and they want you to pay a fee for them to prep it?

Yes, claybar first. Its hard to see on black, but you have rail dust embedded in your paint, as all new vehicles do. The clay bar will remove it, along with all wax.

You're talking about 3 different processes. Wax, polishing, and clay bar. You already waxed, so if you polish or clay bar, it'll remove all the wax you just applied....which is OK...just need to wax again.

You should clay bar, then correct any blemishes with polish and the correct foam pad, then wax.

I dont see too many swirl marks in your paint, but they could be there. If the dealer washed it before they gave it to you...they swirled the paint, guaranteed. If they're there, clay bar, then use a swirl remover with a black foam pad on your DA, then wax.

Thanks guys.

43 is a great price. The 46k was not including the max care. This was my first new car purchase so they got me with the bs fee.

You probably didn't read your find print. Its the norm. its basically 1-2 hours of removing stickers, plastic coverings, washing, waxing, cleaning windows.

That being said, dealers probably spend 30 minutes doing all this and do a terrible job.

most of the time, the prep fee is easily negotiated down or completely removed.

Yep pretty much. There was never any mention of this only when I was ready to sign everything was like Wtf is this. But I had such a hassle with them locating the right package I wanted was just frustrated at that point.

I highly recommend "Zaino", which is mail order only. Start with a full washing with Dawn detergent to take off wax, etc. Use a blower to dry or deionizing water filter such as a CR Spotless as black WILL swirl if you aren't extra careful when drying. 100% cotton towels used carefully are OK. Then do a full clay bar using 16:1 water/zaino Z7 car soap mix to lube.

When done, mix the "accelerator" ZFX product with Z5 wax in one of the small bottles. Apply with the cotton pads moistened with the Z6 spray. One small mixed bottle will give up perhaps 3 full coats on the Jeep.

For when you do have swirls, a random orbit buffer & their swirl remover works like nothing else. I suggest Lake City brand pads from autogeek.com.

Your black truck will look phenomenal.
