New '15 GC Overland

Picked up a new Overland 4x2 V6 on Friday. Wife cars, she came from an Audi TT. Needed a bit more space and we have always loved the utility of an SUV. We played around with the M class a few months ago, and honestly for the money the Jeep is the better overall vehicle. I know the two are closely related on the platform/chassis front - but preferred the way the Jeep drove over the M class. The M class had a much higher center of gravity and you could really feel that in everyday driving. Obviously the M class has a better interior, but not by much. Overall I am VERY impressed with Jeep on this vehicle, I am glad to see the domestics picking up their game and hope they continue on this path.

We thought about going with the 4x4 to get the QL to help ingress, but we would just never use the 4 wheel drive, so decided to pass on it. Somewhat wish jeep would just do the Air suspension on the 4x2 as an option, but understand why they don't.

So far have tinted the fronts at 35 to better match the rear factory tint and deal with the Texas sun. Considering the MOPAR side steps as the wife is 4'11", but she is not sure she likes the way they look. Ordered some Continental CrossContact LX20 tires that are due in a few days so will be swapping the tires. If anyone has a need for the take offs shoot me a PM, I hate to waste anything.

Sweet ride, always nice for a big change. I did the same thing my self by going from a Hyundai Gen Coupe to a Grand Cherokee.

Re: New '15 GC Overland

Very nice! Congrats!

I could be wrong, but I "think" that the current M-class has moved on from the platform that it and the JGC WK2 shared. If so, that might account for the very different feel.

Re: New '15 GC Overland

To the OP: obviously you live in the southern areas of North America...for us folks up north (Central Ontario), 4x4 is exactly why we buy Jeeps.

Congrats on the new ride. (ps kinda like the Audi too!)

Re: New '15 GC Overland

We do get a winter mix from time to time (mostly ice), but there really isn't a need for 4x4 here, they don't treat the roads well where I live and no one else is equipped to drive in those conditions. So sure I would have the ability to survive the conditions better, but wouldn't want to put myself out there anyway with all the other folks. Case in point, wife got hit last winter while at a red light, by someone in a 4x4 who lost control near her.

Regardless, I am ok with 2WD so long as its RWD (hate FWD) so it works for me in the 4x2 state.

Seemed like the mix on dealers lot was 70/30 in favor of 4x2.

I lived in DFW for a few years. Coming from Canada, those ice storms in Texas can be brutal on those concrete highways

yeah, 4 wheel drive won't really help in those situations with all seasons tires. Got through this winter so far with none.

My 90 year old 4' 11" mother-in-law hops in and out easily even when I forget to lower the QL.

Re: New '15 GC Overland

In the Midwest the resale market for a 4 x 2 is nil...
When I even mentioned to my dealer that I may want a 4 x 2, he basically told me in the nicest way that I was crazy..
Bought the 4 WD and never looked back....

Re: New '15 GC Overland

Hahaha, funny how almost all are saying "You should of gone with the 4x4" when the OP is saying he DOES NOT NEED THE 4X4. It amuses me how some folks believe there is something all mighty about being in a 4x4 and being in a 4x2 is just something out of this world. People are just ignorant. Wow!

OP:Congrats on the ride. Your wife's gonna love it. You may too. Also just put lockers on if you need to.

That, park/exit, is a feature I first started using for the 'altitude challenged' missus.
However, on really cold, early, caffeine-deprived mornings, I'm beginning to like it for myself and I'm over 6'1
