Lol I agree. It makes it look too busy and somewhat cheap. Maybe it will just pop off?..

Instead of tightening up their severely lacking quality control to correct that gap that is usually uneven, they chose the worst way possible to cover that unsightly uneven gap. Put a piece of cheap chrome from JC Whitney on it.

They should have just gotten rid of the tray door and leave it an open space. I agree it looks like a after thought.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

I personally wouldn't want that to be just open space...I like having the door there. I haven't seen the new trim design on it up close and personal, so will have to reserve judgement on that.

Ditto!

Hard to tell how it looks and functions from pictures.

And removing the door would SUCK.

Yeah removing the door would make the area look really awkward.. No thanks.

I like the door but usually leave it open, because they did not leave a notch or chase for wire passage through it when closed. Considering the main function of that space is plugging in electronics, such a notch or wire chase would be helpful.

This.

Not sure why Jeep decided not to do this.... there's a wire pass-through hole in the center console, so not why in the media hub?

New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

My mom had a 1957 Plymouth Fury with a shifter like that and my wife and I had 1964 Fury with "typewriter drive" when we were first married. Great leap forward my platoot! 😎

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

I got to sit in a 2016 at the autoshow and got the see that chrome trim piece in person. I can verify my original thoughts and yeah still don't like it. Pretty much as described it looks cheap and like an after thought. It's not flush with anything. When the door is closed its literally a chrome strip sticking out above the console. Just looks weird. It's not the end of the world I suppose, but don't even see the point of adding that. I thought it looks fine as is.
I also leave the door open most of the time. I put my wallet and cell phone in there when I'm driving. I also like how for 2015 they added a blue ambient light in there. My 2014 did not have a light to light up the space, just the plug backlights.

The only reason they stuck that cheap piece of chrome on the edge of the door was to cover up the normally crooked gap between the door and the console. Guess they figure it is cheaper to put that piece of chrome on there vs fixing their lack of quality control and having an even gap across that area so they wouldn't need the chrome piece. Bean counters at their best. They did hire many of them from GM when they laid off many of them not that long ago.

The gap between my door an the console is nice and even. Are you saying that some aren't?
