New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Yes, mine's not. I didn't ever notice until I saw this new chrome edge so I notice now. Doesn't look bad at all. I definitely don't want some stupid piece of chrome just to hide their fit and finish shortcomings.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

The gap on my 14 is fine. Got a 16 Anniversary on order so we'll have to
see what the chrome strip is all about. As to the new shifter it looks to be
the same one as on my wife's 14 Cherokee, which I can take or leave. Never had an issue with the electronic in the WK until I spilled some Gatorade in it!

Gets a little sticky in the warm weather!

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

So I went to the recent Auto Show and for the sake of this forum, decided to take a few quick photos of the controversial chrome piece that everyone is talking about including some views of the new Shifter as well- this while a group of folks waited outside wondering what the heck this guy is up to This was inside a Summit with the Premium Appearance Package. Unfortunately the chrome is smudged with fingerprints but at least most folks here should get an idea. Let the debate continue...

Even when closed it looks out of place. Why not just make it flush without having the chrome piece. ?

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

I'm thinking that since the console had to be redesigned to fit the new shifter, they figured they'd leave the end near the door a little short and stick that chrome piece on the door to cover any miss-alignment. It does look out of place and like an afterthought though.

Edit:
Looking at the close-up of the gap when the door is closed, I'm wondering if there's enough space to shut the door with a radar detector plugged in?

Perfectly even gap between the door and my console on my '15, and come to think of it so was my '14 Summit. I notice things like that too and it looks great when closed.

Hm....I have a 16 Anniversary Limited coming too. I'm not too sure about this chrome strip. Wonder if you can remove it. Or paint it bronze lol.

I see the '16 has a redesigned shifter that actually MOVES and actually STAYS in a different position for each gear.

Anybody know if the shifter will retrofit / plug in to a 2014? Not looking to change anything (D/S mode, paddles, etc) besides that one handle and its tactile operation.
I know what you mean, sometimes you actually have to look at the shifter; but then again i only had this srt for 3 months. I hope there is a way it can be retrofitted.

I must say, based on the pictures, I'll take the looks of my '15 any day compared to the new one. It seems so huge,

I looked at one on the lot. The shifter seems to be of a normal size to me and less prone to brush against with your thigh.

How tall are you? I'm 6'3" and I don't have that problem.

Same here, it's open most of the time for the iPhone charge cable. If I close it with the cable in the compartment the cable usually gets stuck at the bottom of the door and the door won't open anymore... :-)
Now I can see the purpose of the chrome strip, almost a handle to help open the lid when stuck? I for sure don't like the look of it.
