Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

How did you get the shift handle off? After a quick look over I couldn't figure it out and didn't wanna pull on anything too hard until I know how to do it.

The leather top of the shifter splits apart and then there is a bolt under there that gets removed.

The leather top of the shifter splits apart and then there is a bolt under there that gets removed and the rest of the lower handle slides off.

Can anyone with a '16 post a pic of the connector on the shifter unit?

Please remove this post...you don't want FCA getting any ideas. They'd try it for a couple MYs ....and some would say that the ingun earing gods at FCA were correct and this revolutionary way of steering is great....get used to it....'are you too stoopid to figure it out'....driver error. ......
Just admit....your GC is flawed!

Lol

Those folks are Rocks... Personally I like a manual shifter. However the old 14-15 shifter looked better than the 16. A quick minute lesson and folks should understand that if they look at their cluster while moving their shifter, the gear will display the current selection.

If they don't get that, then these folks deserve to count air particles in the dark.

I never test drove my car, all I did was read the manual before I went to pick it up and i've never had a single problem with the shifter.

I never test drove my 2014 or read the manual, just flew to LA from Phoenix and drove it home with no shifter related problems!

Still very interested to see if the swap for the newer 2016 shifter works on the 2014-15 models, as the OP was asking.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Now that I changed from the 2014 to the 2016, I can honestly say I like the shifter in the 2016 a lot better. Never really had too many problems with the 14, but occasionally, would have to shift up or down twice to get it in the right gear. This usually occurred when I was in a hurry, and did not hold the shifter up or down long enough. Problem solved in the 16 with the positive stops. Also, I prefer the shifter knob in the 16 over the T handle in the 14.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Jeep would be silly to offer a retrofit package for the 2014-15 GC's to get the new shifter. That's the biggest reason to upgrade! Aftermarket, someone is reading this, and will show up with a package of OEM and custom parts for a swap. I love my 2014 SRT, but the shifter is less than perfect. Almost annoying enough to upgrade to a '16, but if that shifter swap became an option for under $2K, I'd sign up immediately.
