In one of the many threads on this it was stated from someone who has the "fix"
If you open the door while seatbelt is still connected it will not go into park.

I agree I don't want that either! If i had a choice I'd rather they just put the new type shifter in my14.

Kinda defeats the purpose of opening the door with me being belted in...

Spoke to my service advisor, who I have been dealing with for about 20 years, this am. First I asked him if the recall is mandatory, meaning that the next time I bring it in for service they will automatically do it even though I don't want it. He said it is strictly up to me. I asked him about if it will go into park if vehicle is rolling. He read the detailed info he had on the recall and told me that it will go into park if the vehicle is moving up to 12 mph. Can you imagine jamming your tranny into park doing that speed?

I asked his opinion about the recall in general, whether I should get it. His response: Only helps if you are dumb enough to get out of your vehicle without ensuring you are in park. I totally concur. No recall for me.

Wonder if it's worth giving it a shot for a retrofit - I presume it's not that quite that simple

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

There's no way jeep is having their vehicle slam into park at 12mph. the advisor had to of meant if the vehicle supersedes 1.2mph.

go drive 12mph and slam on the brakes. It's not enjoyable

He was very clear, 12 mph. I emphasized to him how that was a problem and he reread it to me.

Crazy can you imagine lol. I guess im missing something there, you would think that would just shear off the park pin or throw unbelted people into the dash. Maybe they decelerate it somehow before parking at 12 mph

That's why I will pass on the recall. We shall see as time goes by, of any strange complaints by those who had it performed.
