How do you back up a trailer with this shifter??

You need to look backwards and at the same time watch the dash?? Lets say you are at a boat ramp, you are twisted in your seat watching backwards and making sure your are lined up right, but your not. Now shift into drive to go forward, now shift into reverse, oh you got it wrong , do it again, again, OH! its not in reverse, better check the dash to see what gear you in and on and on, SPUPID SHIFTER !!!! Now try to back up using a normal shifter, - easy the way it should be.

It easier to use a manual transmission than the the GC arrangement
I can't even tell you what I do when I'm backing my boat in, but I never have an issue. I had a MY12 and now a MY14 and really never thought about the difference when it came to launching my boat.

The biggest problem with that for me is when backing a boat down the ramp. I'll open my door and stick my head out once the boat hits the water while backing to check how far the boat trailers in the water. Now you won't be able to do that if you open the door and it goes into park.

I haven't had any issues going from drive to park but have had them going from park to drive on occasion I'll wind up in neutral. The shiftier is actually one thing I don't like about the jeep.

This is why you have a backup camera.

That's why you have mirrors that tilt in reverse.

So many complain because the thing is dangerous junk! It may be that there is some sort of manufacturing variation and you have a vehicle which is not problematic. Perhaps you drive less than other. Whatever the case, the problem is real.

No, it would be a good reason to go to another brand for the next vehicle. Unless somebody drives a tremendous amount, selling a 2014 or 2015 model to get a 2016 model would be economic recklessness. Of course, the shifter is dangerous, so it may be a wise, but quite expensive, decision.

I'm terrified of the shifter every time I drive my Jeep. OMG.

Hope everyone is full of sarcasm because if you can't shift and verify then yes get yourself the traditional (better shifter). Not everyone uses common sense.
