Boy, does that ever bring back some memories! It would be fun to see how many of these youngsters could handle one of those.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying...it had nothing to do with the change to the shifter which I support 110% and I suspect that change was made because of general and noted usage problems with the MY14-15 version. What I was saying was that a large percentage of folks wouldn't care if it's a button, knob or stick as long as it works. (and as you note, is intuitive) Unfortunately, that wasn't clear. My apologies.

Yup, I misunderstood what you were getting at.

Things that work are usually more popular with the masses ... and me!

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

The new shifter ?...I can live with that.

The new sport button in the dash....dont like it at all.

Then again, I have a 2014 GC with 60 thousand kilometres and running as good as new so no plans to change it at least until the new restyling reaches the market..and for what i heard that wont be until 2017 or 2019 ?...lets hope my GC will last as it is until then.
Rgds.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Yeah, it really is a give-with-one-hand-take-with-the-other situation. I generally hate the way the 14-15 shifter works, but I really do like going into sport mode with a quick bump on the handle. And I'm also a little bit skeptical about combining the steering and suspension modes with the transmission mode change ... oh well.

Platform refresh is for the MY19 JGC which will appear in the second half of calendar 2018 in the current plan.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

This would have been easily solved if they just put in the shifter found on the new Dodge Chargers. This shifter on the GC looks like crap.

Probably some programmer who never drove a Jeep, saw the word Sport and said, all iterations of Sport go here, without knowing what it actually does.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Might be getting close to a recall.. Feds find Chrysler gear shifts confuse drivers, cause crashes

I wonder what they'd do in a recall, change to new shifter?

Doubt they would make them replace it. Maybe just some education material for those old dogs that can't learn a new trick.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

You guys who are vocal defenders of the '14-'15 shifter — do you let other people drive your vehicle? If and when you do, do you give them any special instruction on it?

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Special instructions wouldn't be required, just as I had none. All that's required is a bit of common sense. While it is obvious that the shifter is/was not we're used to, all it takes is to pay attention to what you are doing.
