New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Apparently I'm one of the many who cannot STAND the bouncy-backy shifter in the '14. I want something more precise (tired of going past a gear I want, or not far enough because some electrical contact doesn't think I did it right). I see the '16 has a redesigned shifter that actually MOVES and actually STAYS in a different position for each gear.

Anybody know if the shifter will retrofit / plug in to a 2014? Not looking to change anything (D/S mode, paddles, etc) besides that one handle and its tactile operation.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

How would anybody know this? The '16 isn't even out yet, then even when it is it will take someone to buy the parts and try swapping. At this time the only people that would really know are the Jeep engineers. I do not know any Jeep engineers ;-)
Best case scenario is they made this a simple change and all the changes are within the shifter itself and its plug and play. The new one is also fully electronic so obviously they didn't go back to cables and linkages, so there could be a chance.
Easiest way to find out would be to somehow get a 2016 and open up the console and take a look at the connectors.

New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Also you'd have to figure out how to move the Sport button lol but if you're not tech savvy enough for an electronic shifter then you might not need sport mode

My 1993 Cherokee sport shift knob was simple to switch.

You could just unscrew it and change the shift knob to a chrome skull or an afro pick handle if you wanted.

I'm hoping the new shifter knob can be swapped the same way.

Would be cool to swap mine out.

Lol what? Things have changed just a little since 1993 we are talking about the fancier electronic shift assemblies in the 2014/2015 and the 2016 Grand Cherokee. Not just a twist off shift knob.

It was a stick.
Loved that thing.

The stick angled toward my right knee.
Some times I would graze the right side of my knee cap when changing gears.
Good times.

lmao.

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

I am very surprised that so many people are complaining about the 14' shifter. It is sooo easy to use it. Real deep push back and forward and holding for a second before release it is jumping park-drive and drive-park. Short push with no holding is switching between gears next to each other. Go practice for a few minutes to get used to it and done. Happy driving.
I am scared that people will start complaining the truck is too fast and Chrysler will start switching Hemi with 4 cyl banger

Re: New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Common complaint is that it's way too easy to put it reverse thinking you put it in park.
Not only in the GCs either.

Please never drive again if you can't operate the shifter in your 14 - society

Actually I like the shifter, it's a bit tricky to operate at times but it's working for me most of the times, i wish the rest of the vehicle would be just a bit more like a BMW X5 :-)

Funny you mentioned this...I've only had my 15' a few months but was checking out some test drive videos on line a few days ago & honestly didn't know the shifter worked this way.
As you referenced - a deep push back from reverse to drive and and deep push forward from drive to park makes all the difference in the world! No more wrong gears.
