This plays well with Jeep's concept of making the Summit more of a model of its own.

Styling aside, if the chrome rear bumper is metal and not shiny flexible plastic, you have to wonder about dings. Today a guy in a Nipponese sports car ran into the rear of our '12 Overland. My neck aches a little, but nary a scratch or ding on our red tank, while his hood was creatively restyled courtesy of our tow bar's protrusions.

Guys, I'm really wondering where you can see a "chrome rear bumper" on the summit?

All I can see is a thin chrome strip running on top of it.

The Summit will get a painted lower bumper with a little bit of chrome on top of it - not an "all chrome" bumper.

Hard to be certain from the pic, but if the lower part's painted then it sure looks like it's not body color.

I was thinking the same thing lol. The guy that posted above you said he is concerned about dings on a metal chrome bumper?!? What cars these days get huge chrome metal bumpers besides work vans and cheaper pickup trucks? I also dont see where people saw anything that resembled a metal bumper either What I do see is a very nicely done bumper with two tone colors and a chrome accent strip.

Correct - and that's not unusual:

Funny how the ML in the photo looks so old and outdated.

Yeah..

I had to google for 10 minutes to find an ML that was two tone. I knew that they existed - but that picture was hard to find. I also stumbled over an image of an Audi Q7 that had the bumper in a different color.

Ouch...'glad you're ok and hope the neck ache goes away quickly. (Given your user name, you must be REALLY local to me...heh...heh)

I agree about the bumper comment. I had a chrome bumper on the 2000 Tundra I owned two vehicles ago. While I was fortunate to not get into very much trouble with it, there was one small ding that was clearly visible. Didn't cause any issue for the big Tom Turkey that loved to admire himself in it, however...

Re: NEW 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee spy pics(thanks 12sleeper!)

I defer to the eagle eyed among us and will hope this isn't one mighty glob of chrome. Makes sense if only because of weight.

Jim, Down the road from the firehouse, thus the handle; you'd know our red GC from the 1950s type bumper sticker. Got gently rear-ended turning right onto 232N at the light in front of the Acme et al. Thanks for the kind thought -- neck's okay now, and would have been nothing except for an old neck injury when I was in high school.

I kinda feel for the guy in the rice rocket. He was hugely embarrassed, and doubtless had a rude shock when he got home and looked at his reshaped hood.
