awesome spy pics by JeepGarage member 12Sleeper! This is a 2014 Overland Summit heading overseas for testing...possibly the Ring? Germany? etc.? New rear bumper, exhaust tips, new black Nappa summit leather etc etc.

I agree with you guys now as well. Originally I thought to myself this coouuuuld be an SRT8, but then I did notice the handles are infact chrome (was hard to tell at first), then as mentioned above I see the standard calipers.

So if this is infact an Overland of some variation that is friggin amazing looking!!!! They went away from the chrome mirror caps, added some tasteful chrome accents elsewhere, SRT8 painted fender flares, and a very fancy lower rear bumper valance. I want one!!!!

Yep....it clearly says..."...drink more beer.....". Funny, I have an overwhelming desire to drink more beer!!!!? ....where's the fridge?:D

Looks like the fenders do not have the black rubber around them. Now if the srt would cost less I get one.

I don't like the new rear bumper. It doesn't look American, it looks very "I wish I had been born an ML-Class". If I wanted an ML, I'd buy an ML.

I think its a step in the wrong direction. One of the best parts about the WK2 is that it's very American and very classy, it doesn't try to be anything other than what it is, and I like that.

if the lower chrome trim is indeed the same as the current durango, and it appears that it is the identical trim piece, i don't care for it. Maybe it will have a different look on the WK2, but I don't care for it on the durango. It reminds of something GM does by cheaply dressing up a vehicle...slap some chrome here and there.

Im happy to see this. One thing I noticed is the wheels, like everyone mentioned, they have a design close to the SRT wheel. Although those rims are 7- 8 inches wide at best which probably means they have an all new wheel design lined up for the '14 SRT model. I cant see them doing copy cats for both models, even in different widths. I dig the new rear end. It looks better IMO, and offers a little more sophistication to the design. I think the SRT model will really be a step up in looks from the current model with more of a Euro fashion since SRT is nipping at the heels of BMW and Benz.

I fully agree with you, that's why I bought my Overland, it flat out bested the Range Rover and LR4 in every way but hp numbers.

I don't think that the way to distinguish yourself and promote yourself is to try to steal the styling from other vehicles you wish you were. I think Jeep has already done a fantastic job with designing the GC, why ruin it by adding parts from a totally different design?

IMO, the original rear was great, though I do think the V6 should have came with dual tips. It was classy, but not pretentious. They're just exhaust pipes, they don't need to be made into some crazy shape to follow some sort of styling motif. They should be circles that let out combusted air/fuel, and there is no benefit to making them anything other than a circle.

IMO, if they really want to have a vehicle that pretends to be a Mercedes, sell it as a Chrysler.

And to me, the "American feel" is the simple but elegant and classy nature of it. Rather than some crazy intricate hood ornament that gets broken off, you get a badge and a grille that lets you know exactly what it is. Rather than a nav system that requires you to use a spinny clicky knob and work around it, you touch what you want to happen on the screen and it works. Rather than a system that you have to try to find a picture that looks like what it looks like outside to set your 4x4, you just leave it in auto and drive through whatever. Rather than styling the screams that you need attention (Cadillac), a subdued but even more classy styling that oozes strength and sophistication.

The American feel is a simple yet luxurious and classy vehicle you can always depend on and never feels cheap or like it's trying to pretend to be something that it isn't. It's a vehicle that is built to be confident in itself.

You're saying you prefer the broken bumper and wheel arches and front lower bumper fascia made up of dark gray / black bumpy plastic to a fully painted finished product? Really?

I have to agree with others that I'm not a fan of the rear styling...Kinda looks cheesy and not well thought out. The fender flares look great on an SRT8, but this isn't and SRT, It's an Overland. So I don't get what the idea is here, sell people on the look of an SRT without the price tag? I honestly prefer the black plastic wheel arches and such as well as the rounded exhaust tips and current rear fascia better to what I've seen in the pics.

In my opinion I wouldn't have changed the rear fascia maybe updated the front fascia with projector fog lights, and tossed in the other options for the mid year refresh such as the 8spd tranny, the bigger nav, and the smart phone remote start app.

Isn't it time to do something different besides the same thing that was since cars was established (Talking Merely exhaust tips) Why must the be round? I'm not saying they have to be this particular design but its really time fr something new. Like the 300 its more oval than the conventional round! Just do something different! Something!

As I said, I doubt that EVERY Jeep is now going to have the same exhaust pipes as the Mercedes. Have a look at the 5-series and its pipes and guess which one is the V8 and which one the V6...;)

The Overland Summit is supposed to be special compared to the other models and when you are looking at the extensive list of features it will have, wouldn't the claim that it isn't a "true" Jeep any more in the first place be valid, too?

I think there are many other models available that would suit potential buyers more that want a classic Jeep - like a Limited or the regular Overland. But a Summit? I don't think so.

#75 ·
The chance that the Summit is the only model with that rear bumper is near zero. If the Summit has it, it stands to be reasoned the Overland will have it, and the Limited will likely have it as an option. Heck, it could even be the rear bumper for anything with a V8!

My first impression was that this was a test mule that was using a bunch of parts from MOPARs.

After studying the pictures for sometime I see that vehicle is a styling amalgam of parts.

In Jeeps journey to remain a globally relevant vehicle they chose a cleaner European look.

Like others said apart from the styling jeep could have done a few other things to have increased the perceive quality of the Jeep.

For V6 model:

They should have had dual exhaust as well

The V6 models should have had a manual shift mode.

base models should have had manual seats with height and lumbar adjustment too.

Tow and Haul mode.

I just noticed something weird. In the picture of the back end of that SRT8 above, I noticed the rear windshield wiper is resting on the opposite side my 2012 Overland's does. Is that an import model where they drive on the wrong side of the street or something? ;-) Do the wipers sit on opposite sides between domestic and import models?

When they typically test a new vehicle or technology on a current model (for example the 8 speed with the CRD engine), how many vehicles do they send out & how many miles do they prefer to run them for to figure out the "bugs"?
