Dude .. get over it already. I think you're smarter than the average person, but it's obvious by your ongoing barrage in every 2014 thread I've seen, you continue to diss the 2014 Jeep design and mechanical updates, no matter what...

If Jeep engineers did back flips, I think you would say something negative.

So exactly what's not American? The rectangle tailpipes? Go back to the 50's, 60's and 70's and see what manufacturers were the first to use rectangle tips. These aren't exactly rectangle like the ML, mind you.

Actually the Jeep design engineers should have cleaned up the rear from the beginning because it looks odd and unfinished like it sits. The round tailpipes should have been dumped and hidden from sight. Now that's American.

I agree, someone said in the thread "the rear bumper is too fussy", they're shoving a lot of new stuff into a limited area. Only thing I like is that it has a decorative panel to cover the tow package. Maybe once I see the whole design without the camo on it I may change my mind. If the order banks are opening in January or February they need to start showing more of what people will be buying. But, the chrome trim on the door panels that extends the length of the doors adds a classy touch, I in all actuality cant wait to see the 2014. I like the new "honeycomb" design in the grille instead of just the triangular one we are seeing now!

Well, this is the Overland Summit - so I wouldn't be surprised if a Laredo wouldn't get that exterior-styling.

Although it's true that a Jeep shouldn't try to be something it isn't, I can understand why they chose this path on the Overland Summit. This model is top of the line and a fully loaded one in MY2014 will have an MSRP of about $55K - so it WILL be cross-shopped with European models like the MB ML. And in that regards, a simple "American SUV" won't cut it.

Jeep is going the extra mile on this Summit and frankly, I don't see anything on this vehicle that says "I wish". Actually, I could see the opposite. If you look at the Mercedes ML-Class, it looks like an old man's SUV compared to the Jeep - so I'd say the Mercedes should be granted a wish..

Re: NEW 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee spy pics(thanks 12sleeper!)

if the lower chrome trim is indeed the same as the current durango, and it appears that it is the identical trim piece, i don't care for it. Maybe it will have a different look on the WK2, but I don't care for it on the durango. It reminds of something GM does by cheaply dressing up a vehicle...slap some chrome here and there.

Lexus does it on the RX.

Don't like it. Looks to much like a Mercedes. Seems like it would be more fitting for the SRT model.

Re: NEW 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee spy pics(thanks 12sleeper!)

Im happy to see this. One thing I noticed is the wheels, like everyone mentioned, they have a design close to the SRT wheel. Although those rims are 7- 8 inches wide at best which probably means they have an all new wheel design lined up for the '14 SRT model. I cant see them doing copy cats for both models, even in different widths. I dig the new rear end. It looks better IMO, and offers a little more sophistication to the design. I think the SRT model will really be a step up in looks from the current model with more of a Euro fashion since SRT is nipping at the heels of BMW and Benz.

It already was being compared to them. I don't think anyone bought a Touareg, ML, etc. over the Jeep because of the exhaust pipes. I get what they're going for, I just don't approve of it. I bought the Jeep for its personality, it's character, it felt more American and brash and purpose built than its German rivals. I liked that it offered German besting interior with the best of American styling.

I don't think Jeep needs to try to sell the Overland/Summit as a poseur ML or Touareg. It's a great vehicle that sells in its own right, don't do it a dis-service by removing its character to try to be a "me too" luxury SUV.

It's like the LED DRLs that Audi came out with. They were cool then, but when you slap them on everything, they're not cool on those things. It just looks lame, like you can't come up with your own original designs.

IMO, they should focus on hings like replacing the plastic around the center console with leather, upgrading their dealer network and service, things like that. Redesigning the back to have a more European rear apron, that doesn't sound productive to me.

true, but they seem to do a better job at it. Most of their vehicles don't scream Cheap when adding chrome like many of the other brands.
