New 2014 Overland - good deal?

I've known I wanted a JGC for a while now and I have finally positioned myself to be able to purchase one. I am out to get the best deal possibly but I am pretty set on knowing what I want.

I know I want either the Overland or the Summit (V8). However, the kicker is that I am pretty set on the Maximum Steel Clearcoat color. The combination of those two makes it slim pickins' here in the Seattle area.

I found the combination on a 2014 (new >230 mi / built 5/14). It has the dual entertainment in the back (def not necessary) but it is missing the Advance Technology package. I was really hoping to get that. Anyways, I have been eyeing it for a while and after a lot of back and forth, I am able to get it for $44,380 (includes TTL). He sent me the invoice and it shows a total of $48,982.

All this considered, is this a good deal? I don't think I could come close to anything like this on a 2015 model.

I do want the Advance Technology / HK speakers that the Summit provides but I don't think I am wanting to spend that price. Thank you in advance for the help!

Re: New 2014 Overland - good deal?

Depends on how set you are on Max Steal as that is not an available color on the Summit. If you have to have that exterior color then Overland it is. However, I would say if exterior color is flexible, then for sure get the Summit. You will appreciate all the technology! HK stereo is downright incredible! Advanced tech package was a must for me, and things you don't get on the Overland like front park sensors, AFS headlights... I bought my new '14 Summit V8 last month for $47,000 plus tax. Had 19 miles on the odo as well so it wasn't test driven to heck. I'm not 100% sure but I would imagine the absolute best your gonna do on a '15 Summit V8 would easily be atleast a few thousand more.

Re: New 2014 Overland - good deal?

yeah, I know I would rather get the summit for the HK speakers / advance technology but it comes down to the price point. I'd be looking at another $10k to get those options.

There isn't any sort of body change from the 14's to the 15's, right?

Thanks again.

Is that for an Overland V8 with no Technology Group. That seems high. I just got a 2015 Overland with Technology Group for $43K (plus TTL) no V8.

Discount below invoice might be ok but I'd hold out and get exactly what you want. IMHO Technology Package is well worth it.

I doubt you'll find many Overlands with HK system in the color you want on a lot so you may have to order.

You should be able to get at least 4% below invoice (even on an order) and remove anything you don't want, get a 2015 and get exactly what you want. And if you do a group buy you can do even better.

Don't confuse a good deal with what you want. The little savings isn't worth it. Orders don't take that long and anticipation is half the fun.

EDIT: I couldn't help looking there is a 2015 Overland V8 with Technology for $44,245 at Dennis Dillon Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM I'm not sure it's the grey you want though. Your gonna have to pay bucks to get that HK system though. Your right there isn't too many summits for a good price in your area.

That OTD price seems about $1-2,000 too high. Why has that car not been sold in nearly 1 year ?

Save your $ for a little longer or cut back on vacation trips and order exactly what you want. You know you want to.

Re: New 2014 Overland - good deal?

I agree with AAAA...if you're going to invest a lot of money in a vehicle, it should be the vehicle you want, not the one that presents itself first. It sounds like your ideal is an Overland in max steel with the Advanced Tech. If you have to compromise on "something", the color is probably the better choice to do so since the Advanced Tech is a key factor. (and something I personally wouldn't be without if I were buying an Overland) Don't feel you need to buy locally, either...shop for what you want, even if that means a factory order at a great % off invoice somewhere else.

One also has to wonder why that lone 2014 is still on that lot...it's either because it's missing the advanced tech feature making it less desirable or...some other reason. If it was built in May 2014, it was on that lot no later than late June. A vehicle that sits in inventory for a year would be concerning to me.

I wondered the same, however I bought my '14 Summit new last month on April 7 with a April 2014 build date. It had 19 miles on the odo when I first test drove it and bought it the next day. At first I thought could have this thing really been sitting at this dealership for close to a year and literally never move? lol Then I looked the vehicle over and test drove it and none of that mattered. It was and still is absolutely perfect in every way. I do not regret the purchase at all as I think getting a left over '14 got me what I thought to be a great deal in the exact combination I wanted.
Color wise mine is white with Grand Canyon brown interior and has the V8. At the time of purchase there were a couple left over 14's in the area, but none were new in the wrapper still like mine. Others had 3-400 miles on them, one was missing the spare key, and were still the same price as the one I got with 19 miles on it.
At any rate, all im getting at is if the vehicle looks and drives perfect do not hesitate to purchase a left over '14 thats been sitting for a while.

Also, as far as Overland vs Summit, either one is an excellent choice, but as others have said get exactly what you want. Nothing would be worse then settling on a non-advanced tech Overland only to wish you had those features for the rest of the ownership. Its just easier with the Summit because you know it has every possible feature you want.
The '14-'15 Summits have no exterior changes with the exception of the available Platinum (California Edition) which has some exterior color changes. Instead of the lower charcoal gray side skirts and front/rear bumper skirts they are body colored as well as mirror caps and door handles. They also changed all the chrome accents to more of a satin nickel kind of look. Again, no actual changes, just different color setups. '15 Summits also got illuminated "Summit" door sills as well as a active noise canceling system which may or may not be noticeable.

Oh, I'm not saying there are not good reasons to pick up a left-over if the "right one" comes along...we just need to be a little more careful this far into the subsequent model year.
