Exactly.. I am REAL glad I have a 12 now. I hope that is not how the actual production ones look. HIDEOUS..

Re: New 2014 Spy Pics on Autoblog

Jeep has a problem. No one ever criticized the looks of the WK2 until now. The people who have been waiting due to CRD or 8 speed tranny should be over the top with excitement, most responses are lukewarm at best waiting to see in the flesh to pass final judgement. The fact that the responses are so negative says the redo is a fail - at least from styling standpoint.

This is more of what I was suggesting... the new tails look larger and a little rounder (less angular like I think the current WK2 tails are) which makes me think of the Durango.

That and the large clear/white strip (reverse lights) on the new tails look like the larger clear/white strip on the Durango tails. I like the current WK2 as it minimizes the amount of clear/white (reverse lights on bottom of the trapezoid).

That's like, my opinion, man.

Re: New 2014 Spy Pics on Autoblog

Personally I am over the top with excitement. Would I have been disappointed if externally the refreshed 2014 looked exactly the same as the 2011-2013s? Absolutely not. But as I said earlier, at the very least I think they improved the proportions of the grill and headlights, and I personally don't think it looks any less masculine, in fact I might go so far as to say it can be argued that it looks a little more masculine. Here's a shot of the current gen WK2 that at that angle at least looks more feminine than the refresh... in my opinion.

I actually do like the new all-silver/gray grill though. It's still bold and very distinctive and clearly still a Jeep (and doesn't remind me of a Compass at all... thank God). Most importantly, the pictures released so far don't make me want the 2014 any less than I did before. I will say I'm not as big a fan of the two-tone version of the grill though.

Also, if you go back to the last pages of this forum when the WK2 first came out, you'll see that some people had negative comments about the looks back then too. Here is one such thread.

My guess is a lot of the negativity we're seeing now has to do with the fact that we're all ("all" being made up largely of current owners of non-refreshed WK2s) used to the way the WK2 looks currently, and all really like and liked it. But humans (including myself... of course) often take time to adapt to and accept change. The natural response to change, especially when we're so used to and so like what was changed, is often negative, as we see here. But with time (and more pictures ) that initial instinctive "what were they thinking?!" response often turns to "it's actually kind of growing on me" and then "first I hated it and couldn't believe they'd change it like that, but now I love it".

Not always though. I guess only time will tell if it'll happen in this case too. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of higher quality and of better angles.

Re: New 2014 Spy Pics on Autoblog

The one thing I'm not so sure about though is the lonely chrome strip on the bottom of the rear end of the refresh. I think the thicker chrome strip that had the Jeep logo on it on the current version (above the license plate) balances out that bottom chrome strip better than just the "Jeep" letters being chrome.

I've read it all now... I don't have time to respond to Chrysler employees or the psycho brand humpers.

Maybe later...

^^^ I couldn't agree with you more on this. Looking at the WK2 picture you linked to does look feminine-ish. I just think it is a bad angle to take a picture at. Once the tape is removed and we can fully see the front end headon, people might change their tune of it.

Yes the tailgate looks a little more like the Durango but I don't think the taillights do. Without the chrome piece between the lights, it makes it look different like going back to the WK that didn't have it. The sides of the vehicle didn't change so I don't understand how people are saying it is now more like a "Soccer-mom van/SUV". So they changed a few things, we all knew it was happening. The only think we didn't know what truly was behind all the swirl paint on with it exactly looked like. Things aren't finish and we should still wait to see more pictures or "official" pictures before we say it is a complete failure of a refresh, cuz I don't think it will be.

I still for 1 will be ordering a 14 when the banks open.

I don't feel any different about the compass now than I did when I first saw the small rounded smiley face front-end and more than likely will think the same with the refresh. It gives a more pointy rounded look to the front rather than a Bold/ Edgy appearance.
