I'd say this is fairly accurate.

We went up to the ski resort twice this week, while up there we had a pleasant conversation with a guy with a GL350 who brought his kids to go skiing. He was curious if my Jeep offered a 3rd row, and I told him no he'd need to get the Durango for that (which he didn't want at all - there was a nice looking Citadel up there too), we both remarked how we liked each other's vehicles. He was envious of me being able to remote start my Jeep immediately with no waiting and get in to a warm vehicle that sounded nice. His diesel sounded like a bunch of clanking cans when he got it started.

They really need to come up with a smarter way to do this. With smart keys, you'd think they could come up with a way to engage glow plus while you're in the process of walking up.

so will the jgc crd not be able to remote start? that would suck being it gets cold here.

I'd doubt that. Just takes longer, the car has to run the glow plugs for a while to get the engine warm enough to combust the fuel (no spark plugs and all). Then you have the added problem that diesels are more efficient, and create less heat during operation. That's all fine and well except that your car's heater requires a hot engine to operate, since it uses that "waste" heat to operate.

Some diesels have an auxiliary heating system because of this. Not sure if the CRD will or not.

Automatic start is not an issue on diesels, i have one on my truck, the glow plugs dont need to warm up for 10 minutes or anything, its literally 30 seconds max, and all it takes is an extra relay...

Not a doubt in my mind its an exageration, i love cold starts on big cube motors, you should hear the 363 in my mustang when it fires up in the cold with open headers (after about 20 tries because of the size of the cam)

Re: New/cool features of the '14 make everything previous obsolete.

I have the factory remote start on my 2008 CRD. It's smart enough to wait for the glow plug indicator to go off before engaging the starter motor.

It doesn't usually get below 20 F around here so I've never had to wait more than 4 or 5 seconds. The only time I've been in below zero temps with my current ride, it was never parked more than a few hours so I don't know how long they take to heat up when it's really cold.
