New GC 13 oil change?

Hi Folks,

I've never owned a new car until recently, I've put about 5k on it, when do you recommend doing the first oil change for this vehicle..

Grand Cherokee limited 5.7L 2013

Cheers,
Soner

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

Standard interval, if it hasn't changed for the MY13 JGC over the MY12 is 8K miles for vehicles that are not considered "heavy/hard" use...or when the EVIC tells you to change it, whichever comes first.

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

Just follow the owners manual, which is whichever occurs first:
1) Oil change indicator,
2) 8000 miles, or
3) 6 months.

Changing any earlier is urban legend and based on the technology in place decades ago.

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

I did my first one at 5k, but 8k is fine unless it is all city driving. It is so reasonable (less than $30 at my dealer) I go every 4-5k since my driving has a lot of towing and city miles.

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

Usually, the first oil change is free. I got mine changed at around 4400 miles.

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

The first one was at 4000 and now I do it every 6000 miles. I tow and use full synthetic Mobil 1. Oil is cheap insurance for a $40+k ride.

Thats an urban legend and false. With todays oil and engines, exposing the Jeep to more often oil changes exposes it to more risk of damage, so changing oil early not only costs you, it is not insurance... its risky behavior

He is saying he changes it every 6000 miles and he tows, not changes it every 3000 miles and drives like a grandma, I know at 5000 miles the Mobil one in my fusion is black as crude oil when it comes out, I'm sure the oil is still good additive wise but with the suspended particles I still wouldn't risk it.

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

How in the world does changing the oil expose the vehicle to damage?!?!?

Some studies have shown changing your oil constantly early will wear out the engine because of the cleaning agents in the oil, but that is also a study of changing your oil every 1000 miles or so.

Re: New GC 13 oil change?

Right, you're not talking about 5k instead of 8k.
