new here

Hey guys, I'm new here. I love all the enthusiasm for the GC. I haven't bought one yet; actually still deciding between GC (Limited 5.7) and Touareg. (Almost the exact same size). But to me the GC just looks right: perfect proportions, and I like the idea of a V8.
However, the '14 GC has had a lot of recalls which worries me. Touareg none for '14. Hoping Chrysler has ironed things out for '15MY.
- Can anyone speak to the electrical/software issues?
- Also, 8 of 10 reviews mention "the annoying shift lever." Assume I'd get used to that?
- One more: some reviews say the seats are hard, like you're sitting on them rather than in them. What do you think? (Anyone try putting SRT seats in a lessor model?)
Thanks

Welcome and understand your dilemma. I have 2014 GC Summit and this is my first Chrysler product ever. I've had a few minor issues, but nothing to be overly concerned with. My 14 has a Feb. 2014 production date so many of the early issues had been ironed out. To address your concerns;

Electrical/Software: I have had very good luck with all of this and UConnect in general
Shift Lever: It is different but did not take long for me to adapt
Seats: I can see where some say they are too hard, especially if you are larger. To me the seats feel more like a sport seat with the side bolsters and narrow seat path. Not the most comfortable I have ever sat in but not even close to the worst. My biggest complaint with the seats are that my heated seats do not get very warm and definitely do not warm up very quickly. At least that is my experience with mine.

All in all I think you will be happy with the ride and advanced electronics in the new Grand Cherokee's Not many regrets here.

Re: new here

I had 52,000 miles of trouble free driving with my 2011 Limited. 2015 Overland is almost 2000 trouble free miles. Yes, the shifter is weird, but you can handle it. I found the seats on my Limited to be harder than Overland, but what do I know!

Re: new here

MY14 started shipping in early 2013, so there is a lot of "mileage" on the current version and the majority of early issues were ironed out as production continued. MY15 is, for all practical purposes, the same production run. Any manufacturer can have recalls. In fact, IMHO, recalls are your friend since it's the manufacturer acknowledging something is amiss and taking action to rectify it.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a MY15 if I needed to do so, although my next one will be a few more years out unless something unusual happens. Totally satisfied to-date.

I have a 2014 summit that is a March 2013 build so its an early one, yes it has been back in a lot probably about a dozen times for mostly minor and mostly software. Was not happy about the number of issues but I have them all worked out now and it has been fine. You will be fine with a 2015 and the 5.7 have probably had the least complaints on here concerning shifting issues. Seats start out hard but soften up. shifter is weird but you get used to it just like anything. I looked at Touareg among others before buying this and Touareg may end up being a little more reliable but they are definitely a lot more boring.
The one negative I would point out is that the dealer network is rotten and not many people will disagree with that. But there are a few good ones out there they are just few and far between. If you end up with a bad one don't waste your time fighting with them just walk out the door and go to another one until you find a good one.

Re: new here

Welcome to the board Nikita,

Had a new 2010 VW Touareg, after 6 months swapped it out for a new GC2011 Overland HEMi…after a few years of trouble free, i bought the 2014 EcoDiesel. I do agree both are nice SUV's and maybe VW could be seen as more reliable…but IMHO, the drive and technology of the GC makes it way more enjoyable…as for the seats, I prefer by far the GC to the VW…Shifter, is a non issue….should not effect your decision...We've always been a VW household, we still have a smaller 2013 VW TIGUAN and it has seen its fair share of the dealer's repair shop…So, I can say that almost 5 years later, I have not regretted once moving to the GC. Test driving is a must...Hope it helps…

Re: new here

Appreciate the input. I really like the GC and have sort of lost interest in the Touareg. Am currently living in Eastern Europe. There are a couple of Jeep dealers here but not easy to get to w/o a car, plus no local driverís license, etc., so hard to get a hands-on. But Iíll be coming home soon and will need a car.
Iíve noticed some í14 GCs here; they do look good. (Thereís one particularly loud SRT that rumbles around my district.)
Anyway thanks again, and I love all the small mods you guys do. Itís interesting.

Re: new here

Regarding electrical issues: Chrysler knows about the "Christmas Tree" dash. It's fixed. They have frequent software upgrades, but they are far less frequent and inconvenient than when my computer or iPad needs to be updated.

The shift lever is certainly novel, but it's not rocket science. It's actually a really nice feature once you get used to it. The reviews are a good place to start, but take them with a grain of salt. Haters gonna hate!

I don't know why you want to replace the seats, but if that's your thing then have at it!
