good morning,
I used to have a custom limited & an srt approx 10 yrs ago, a lot of names here look familiar from the jeep site I used to belong to in the early 2000's. i'm looking to buy a new Cherokee and as i'm making a list of what I need to do, which model, tires, trim, paint, ect... my normal friends just tell me to shut up and just buy a car already, they all buy what the salesman tells them to buy. I know I need to come back here and talk with people who think like I do, customizing everything. lol
I traded in my limited & srt for a ram 1500 in 2012, now thinking of going back to a Grand Cherokee. ive been lurking here for a month now, and joined today because i'm ready to pull the trigger on a 2017 Grand Cherokee.

I looked at the limited, mainly for the 5.7, & leather interior. ive had a 5.7 in my old limited and my ram. I liked it. I also just discovered the altitude, and have realized it comes already without all the chrome trim the limited has that I don't want, and I wouldn't have to de chrome it, but it seems they only come in a 3.6, I haven't driven the 3.6 yet. not sure if I want to lose the 5.7, either model limited or altitude, will be granite, & as of now, get a set of 22" viper wheels, not sure of the color yet.
i'm estimating $42,000 for a limited, $35,000 for an altitude. and would have to order either one. I don't need all the extra off road stuff as i'm going to customize it anyway. they're giving me $22,000 on my ram trade in.

what I want in the Cherokee is:
granite crystal mettalic
5.7
4 wd
cd- 9 speaker sound
navigation
leather seats black

pretty simple. if I can have that built in the altitude, it will obviously save me a few dollars. or if they would build the limited without the chrome grille, door handles, window trim ect... I would do that, just don't know if they'll do it.
any advice or suggestions are appreciated and I will be keep everyone posted on the progress. I will check back tonight when I get home from work.
tx,
scott

Sounds like you're going to want the overland. I don't know if they even offer the 5.7 in the limited. If they do they're going to be very hard to find so it would have to be a custom order.

If you go with the overland there will be some chrome you have to switch out. Unless you go for the summit with the v8 and cali package. Will have everything you want plus no chrome

the 5.7 in the limited isn't a problem to get, I just don't know if I can order it in the altitude.
the summit is too pricey for me. for $10k more i'd just get another srt. I just don't want the monthly nut anymore.
here in new York, I don't see any altitudes in the lots, i'd have to order it.

5.7 is not available on the Altitude.

You should look into the Trailhawk. No chrome, can come with the 5.7, 9 speaker sound system, can be had with black leather or the black leather/suede combo, Nav available. It fits all of your requirements.

Those seem to be your only two chrome minimal options with the 5.7. Limited or Trailhawk

yes, I did check out the trailhawk. and the stock wheels aren't ugly. but its a little pricey also at $50k and I would have to take off the tow hooks in the front, as I have no need for them, would have to find a cover plate for that also.
i'm trying to keep the price down around $42,000 on a limited with a little arguing lol

I have not driven a v8 JGC so I can't compare the two, saying that I have not found the V6 to be lacking for the most part. I would look into the V8 if you tow regularly, live in a hilly terrain, or don't care about gas mileage and want more get up and go.

Take a test drive of both the V6 and V8 simulating your usually driving routes (town/highway/hills/flat) and decide after that.

so I called jeep today, I cant get the altitude with a 5.7, even if I wanted to order it, it only comes in the limited model & up. so i'll have to drive the 3.6 on Saturday. all that chrome on the limited is really bothering me.
the cd looks like a delete.

That's correct. Altitude is essentially based on the Laredo and Laredo is only available with the V6. You can easily see what's available on the various trim levels by visiting wk2jeeps.com and browsing the 2017 Features/Pricing link.

And yes, the 8 Speed transmission makes a world of difference with the V6...

To throw a monkey wrench in here - look at the 2017 75th Anniversary Limited. No chrome and you can get the 5.7. I had to order my 2016 75th because I wanted the Hemi, ORA-II and 75th Lux packages. Very, very hard to come by in that config apparently.

yes, they brought that up at the dealer. the only interior I saw at the dealer in the 75th was green with beige trim, on a gray truck.. I cant do that. the altitude has the grey with aluminum trim, much better. all the 75th's had the 3.6, and I checked on the jeep site build and it doesn't have the option. the msrp according to the jeep site is $36,800. without any radio options, or bigger wheels,no packages ect. basically bare bones. the 5.7 if it's available is another $3,200
limited is $42,300 with the 5.7, altitude is $37,500 with a 3.6
these are all standard builds online.

my intentions by spring are to have no chrome trim, mirrors, window trim, bumper trim, handles ect...body color or black. 22" wheels, full leather interior. and the closest model I see that would be easiest to do is the altitude, but I might have to buy the leather front seats, I don't want the suede... but if the 3.6 is a pig, I have to get a limited with the 5.7 and full leather, and do all the blacking out myself on the exterior which is a pain in the a** lol
