Re: New Overland today, couple issues

2. The EVIC. Tire Pressure says "OK". But when I check it, 3 tires are at 43 psi, the right rear is at 33 psi. That doesn't seem OK to me. What should the pressure be? And is the EVIC broken to not alert me to the difference?

Question, how does the tire pressure monitor work? Doesn't it show the tire pressure within each tire?

Yes, it does. If you change pressure while parked you may need to drive a couple blocks for new pressure to register.

It will alert you if pressure is too low on any of the tires (20-something). There is a table here for WK, WK2 is probably similar: http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_tpms.htm

Mine smoked for a while in the beginning as well. It took about 1500 miles for it to become almost not noticeable. Must be some of the coatings burning off on the interior of the exhaust system (new steels are typically oil coated from the mill).

Re: New Overland today, couple issues

Thanks for all the replies. Couple updates here with new problems. And I'll post some photos tomorrow.

1. Called the dealer, they will fix everything. No pushback over the phone at least.

2. I'm pretty much discounting the USB console issue. It sure is quirky but I'm not sure it doesn't work. Overall the 430N just isn't right with iPods I think. My iPhone is iOS 4.2.1 and it doesn't work at all, and doesn't get charged by the center arm console USB port, again, it seems to work reasonably well via bluetooth, though it took dozens of tries to pair it. A first generation iPod Touch charges from the center arm console USB port, but doesn't play music to the stereo.

3. The EVIC works great! I took air out of all my tires that were at 43, and brought them down to 33, which is the pressure indicated on the inside of the driver door. The EVIC updated within seconds while the car was parked in the driveway.

4. New Problems:
a. Some kind of accordion-like rubber piece on the side of the sunroof is loose (as in nearly not installed) and flopping around making all kinds of noise. The one on the other side is firmly installed.
b. The rear right passenger inside door handle doesn't open the door. Doesn't engage the lock at all.
c. My rear right tire keeps going flat. I figured it out though. The valve is busted and leaking air.

5. I'm not worried about that white smoke anymore, it does seem to be slowly getting better and no lights have gone on, but it was so thick and smelly that there is a film on the back of the vehicle now, and the interior has the odor.

Re: New Overland today, couple issues

Figured I ought to mention even with all those quality control problems, that I still really like the vehicle. If I had to fight with the dealer I'd be sick with buyer's remorse, but as long as they fix all that piddly stuff that is broken, I'm happy. It just looks so dang good and feels good on the road.

A shame the QC process appears to be so bad.

Check the door for a small plastic keyhole which I believe is what controls the child safety locks. Make sure it isnt in the lock position on that side.

Re: New Overland today, couple issues

Update:

Door not opening was a child lock setting. Thanks Nbtstatic!
Rear tire losing air was a faulty valve. Dealer replaced.
Sunroof was repaired...no more rattling!
Smoke stopped.
Dealer ordering new plastic bits for the broken seat bolt covers.
430N suddenly works great with the iPhone 4 and the console USB port. Dealer checked it out and said it didn't have and issue and they didn't have to do anything. It worked just fine for them. Hmm. It definitely did not work for me at all. But after taking it to the dealer it works like a charm.

VERY HAPPY. Now I just have to get used to mileage in the 12's. Though I don't see much difference between 12 and 14 or so. Its all bad. But its for a good cause!
