Re: New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

Considering I now fly an LSD (Large Steel Desk) for the next year or two I really have no room to talk. However, there is the old saying about Navy pilots spending so much time learning how to take off and land on a carrier that they just never get good at the stuff in between... Where it really counts. Just sayin'

You young aviators have all the fun. 2000 hours F-106. Before that F-100, F-105. Real airplanes! 22 years ANG - retired.

Still waiting for my 2015 Limited Ecodiesel. Read this morning's paper where Jeep/Chrysler/Fiat came in dead last in Consumer Reports reliability rankings.

Re: New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

Yup, was just discussing that CR report with my coworker who has a 2014 and has had a few odd issues. I don't put much stock in CR anymore, but numbers don't lie. Here's hoping for some good luck with this car!

I'd give my right trigger finger for a chance to take a 106 for a spin, such a cool airplane. I've read a lot about the history of it - one thing that will continue to blow my mind is the mechanization of it's FC radar. It's display symbology and mechanization is so different from what Mr. Hughes gave us in the Eagle's APG-70.

Yeah - the F-106 was a great machine. Too bad we can't swap rides! I keep up a little bit with my young buddies here in the ANG. So much info in the modern fighter cockpit that we never had..........but it was amazing for 1950's tech.

New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

Let's even her up a bit. Tail Hook Aviation is the only aviation! E2-C Hawkeye. Haha and I will have to disagree with the forgetting the in between pilot stuff as unless deployed I practice boat landings about 2 weeks every 6 months.
But ya that 106 is sex on wings!

Not quite sure I follow all your post, but Yes - the F-106 was a great machine, and No - I'm not at all unhappy that I didn't have to land on tiny, moving runways.

Re: New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

Congrats on your purchase! I'm looking into a 2014 and I see that you opted out of the blu ray player. Does it really take up that much space? If it's installed, is there any console storage? I was wanting to get the blu-ray for the kids, but now I'm second guessing.

Re: New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

Thanks! Yes, after looking at it and researching I decided to pass. Here are my thoughts:

- you lose 75% of your center console space. Look at the CD player threads - the BD player takes up the same space

- my son is in a rear facing seat and the monitors make the seat backs a good 1 or 2 inches thickr, forcing me to move the seat back further forward - rear facing seats are huge!

- most of our movies are in electronic form now, I only see that increasing as I download thousands of episodes of bob the builder

- for $2000 you can easily buy two iPads, 2 proclip mounts, and have plenty of cash left over for movies

- you do lose the OEM look, but for right now I think it's our best way to go.

- if it was an overhead player without the loss of center console space I may have gotten it. However, more important is our son is still 1.5 years away from facing forwards. To early to invest in that system. Input the money towards the V8, roof rack, step rails, and pedal covers

Hope that helps!

Re: New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

Thanks man, this is excellent! Though, this raises another point I hadn't considered. I also download a lot, so the Blu-ray won't play any type of .avi or .mp4 files?

New owner - 2015 JGC Overland V8!

I'm not 100% sure, but my guess would be yes. That's what i was thinking as well - use the HDMI port to play off an iPhone or iPad. But that's when I figured hey, why not skip the middle man?!

You can download the JGC and uconnect manuals from jeep. They answer a bunch of usability questions, helped me choose.

Also, remember you can play an iPads audio via Bluetooth. That can make for a very neat, flexible solution. To be honest - if my son was facing forwards now I'd have a much tougher decision considering everything. That was really what swayed me.

Good luck! Don't you love $2-3k decisions??
