Re: New Summit for New York Auto Show

They market it both ways on and off road. Its the luxury model but also for some mild-medium off road if you want to, if you want more hard core get overland ORAII. The drive system and suspension of a 4x4 v8/diesel summit is the same exact thing as an ORAII Overland only difference is the ORAII has 18s instead of 20s and tow hooks. Air dam does come off of ORAII easier than summit. In 2014 factory skid plates were not an option(you could add them later) on it but demand was there so they added them as option in 2015. Its actually more off road capable than the HA Overland because the HA does not have ELSD as an option but its standard on summit. The only one marketed as on road only is the SRT. Here is one of their summit marketing photos.

Yes, they show it in off-road situations in the marketing materials, but it's never "harsh" off road.

Re: New Summit for New York Auto Show

The touch screen looks like it's about an inch taller than the previous one. I don't care for the wheels. I'm kinda on the fence about the stitching on the seats. That's kind of a British style for upholstery. It looks a little out of place on a Jeep. The front grill treatment looks ok. It might look better on other colors.

These are typical low-cost cosmetic changes that manufacturers add as models get "old".

I plan on taking my $58k Summit off road. Don't plan on beating it up, but I will take it on some hard trails that require low range.

Same here, on the beach, back up some harsh trails for back woods camping it will see some good stuff but no tearing it up or heavy duty rock crawling or mud pits get a Rubicon for that. I would have got the SRT if I didn't need off road ability, summit is a good combo of everything. Some skid plates and tow hooks just in case and the summits just right for what I want it for and you got a nice luxury cruiser on road.
