Yea, but remember that with the remote start, the JGC is not actually "started/running"... Car will not move unless it's officially "started/running" after entry.

I don't know where you heard that, but it is not true. Pretty much unless you intentionally damage the vehicle, comp coverage on a personal auto policy will cover the loss.

Negligence comes in to play when a third party puts a claim in against you.

And anyone who works in insurance claims has at one time or another asked the question, "Do we cover stupidity?" The answer is always a resounding yes!

BTW - the people who leave the key fobs in the car used to leave the keys in the car.

Last winter I heard about a string of car thefts where some group was driving around in the morning looking for cars running with nobody in them. People would start the engine to warm the car and then go back inside, leaving the car running with the key in the ignition and the doors unlocked.

Those can be pretty common. Common enough in some areas that doing this is against the law, and you'll get a "huffing" ticket. No idea what this could do to an insurance claim if you are ticketed and the thief is following the nice officers passing them out.

What about the a$$ho1@$ who leave their child strapped in the car seat, leave the car running and run into the store for "a second" to buy a pack of smokes, only to come back out and find the car, and the kid gone!!! not only should the insurance co. refuse to pay, but they should be arrested and charged with a crime.

Re: New technique makes it easy to break in and steal GC

Just loosely wrapped my FOB in a piece of cheap aluminum wrap. Could not unlock/lock, open the hatch or remote start from inside the house, about 15 feet away. Did not try the PANIC button as I have a carry permit

This has nothing to do with remote start.

You are a smug one

Point taken, although it became part of the conversation in post #6 of this thread. Sorry to have offended you and that my efforts to be part of the conversation sometimes miss the mark, ch'.
