New to Jeep. New Altitude.

Hey guys! New to jeep and I'm trying to learn as much about my new Altitude as I can. I've already ordered floor mats and the mat that goes in the rear. I also ordered some mopar splash guards to help with chipping on the lower part of the jeep.

An hour after signing the papers, I took it over to a buddy of mine. The check engine light came on and it started overheating. The engine temp gage was pegged and the oil temp was 249. I immediately took it on the road, where the oil temp went down to 211.

Took it to the dealer the next morning and they found the radiator fan hadn't been plugged in from the factory. Oops. Good thing it was 25 degrees on both days and not 100+ like it gets during the summer here.

Any pointers or anything I should look out for with the Grand Cherokee?

Re: New to Jeep. New Altitude.

Welcome & great choice going with the Altitude.
I think as you peruse through the WK2 forum you will find a ton of info, whether you want to go off-roading or just cruise the streets. There are some that have even enhanced the power of the 3.6 by adding a supercharger!

So much good info here. Not much to "look out for" as in trouble that I'm aware of. I've had mine for just over a year now.

Good luck with it and keep us posted with mods, major or minor, and pics. Everyone loves pics.

I'm just glad there was no damage and it was an easy fix.

May be a dumb questions, but did you purchase two sets on the splash guards? I found them online and they say they come in a set of 2 (1 set = 2 splash guards). One set for front and one set for rear = 2 orders. Am i misunderstanding something?

I'm sure they still claim to have some ludicrous quality certification. That's the part that peeves me. When I've personally witnessed a number of failures beyond the standard and they still retain it. That shows those standards mean nothing.

Like I said, I'm glad it was 25 degrees outside and not 100. As soon as it started climbing in temperature; I drove it and it went down to 211 pretty quick. It's still BS though.

You need to take pictures of the temp reading every time it gets high and follow up with the dealer, via phone and email. That's BS and they obviously need to replace your cooling system or something. Should not happen even if it's 100 outside. I live in AZ and drive 3 hours to my cabin all summer long and never had a vehicle over heat. I am not easy on them either, 70-85mph up 6% grades is nothing to sneeze at. Good luck. My good friend just got a approval from a buyback on his 2015
