Re: New Wk2 Overland v8 or 3 year old used X5 4.8i??

I'd keep the X5, especially if it has been relatively trouble-free. Just work an extended warranty into the deal if you're worried about future repair costs.

Doubtful that it ever makes sense to purchase a vehicle out of lease unless perhaps they are going for 0%, and BMWs never get there. However, the Jeep leases don't seem to be all that great, so do the math, and include lots of cash for repairs to the X5 beyond your mileage for warranty.

Re: New Wk2 Overland v8 or 3 year old used X5 4.8i??

I recently purchased my WK from its lease.... why? Well, it's been probably the best damn daily I've ever had, and there's really nothing on the market that's better for what I think is reasonable value.

Also, the Jeep is quite reasonable on parts prices when required, contrary to the BMTroubleYou!

Re: New Wk2 Overland v8 or 3 year old used X5 4.8i??

the two big things of the X5 are:

the feel of steering wheel. The x5 gives seem to be more planted to the ground and the steering, especially at higher speeds, is definitely better. Maybe this will change with the new electric steering wheel, but other than that the GC is a better value.

BMW is just to expensive to own. I had a couple when in Germany, and even if it was a "domestic" car, the parts and service where too expensive.

The other is the IDRIVE. For me that is the best Infotainment system in the market. The system alone is worth 10k to me. the steering feeling another 5k.

But the X5 new is about 25k more. so I keep my GC.

Re: New Wk2 Overland v8 or 3 year old used X5 4.8i??

The X5 is not an off road capable vehicle. It's a high performance AWD sedan with more ground clearance.

From the X5 manual, page 133: "Do not drive on un-paved terrain"

Funny, that's a little different than what I find in the Grand Cherokee's manual...

Re: New Wk2 Overland v8 or 3 year old used X5 4.8i??

As mentioned in another recent thread, many of us chose a 2011 JGC over the new X5 and all other SUV's in and above it's class.
