Wow that's a huge step backwards.

I was hoping to see the shifter from the charger.

Not what I expected, more like a downgrade than an upgrade. 👎

New WK2 shifter handle for 2016 (pic)...

I think it looks nice and similar to the one I had in my 2012. I'm happy with the looks of the shifter in my 2015, still getting used to it, I will have had it for 2 weeks tomorrow. I wanted to get the V6 without the start/stop though and am very happy with the V6 paired with the 8 speed. I keep it in ECO mode and it shifts great and it accelerates very well, and I'm getting 19.3 mpg. I was getting 13 mpg in my 2012 Jeep GC 5.7L. This V6 is just as quick, and the lighter engine is noticeable, and it's very smooth. Glad I went ahead and got the 2015 instead of waiting for 2016.

Well, I have to say I like the shifter in my '14 and I am used to it. It has a nice expensive action/feel once you are used to it, and once you are used to it you can operate it without looking down at it or the indicator. BUT it is very dangerous if you are not used to it. I feel compelled to warn my spouse and teen drivers whenever the drive my car that they MUST use extreme care. A local man I know thought his '15 JGC was in park, but you guessed it, it was in "R" and ran over him when he exited. He lived, but was in a rehab hospital for a couple of months. He had just traded his '04 JGC and had no idea of the danger. I think overall it might be a great idea on paper but in the real world, it is too unlike virtually every other shifter out there. People just don't expect it to act the way it does.

Re: New WK2 shifter handle for 2016 (pic)...

^^^ interesting story and I wonder what other info goes along with it. I mean obviously it's user error, because the car wouldn't have even let him turn it off. If it was a case of him not having intentions of shutting the vehicle off, grabbing something in the back then jumping back in I could see that happening, but the Jeep would have started moving in reverse right away. Weird stuff, but either way I do always check my screen or the shifter to see its in the correct gear I intended it to be in. Works great and as advertised.

Right, user error for sure...he was backing a utility trailer of some sort and got out to see if he had the trailer where he wanted it. So no, he wasn't turning the car off. Still, the problem is you push the shifter forward but not far enough, I guess, and you get R instead of P. I did it several times myself before I got used to the shifter....leaving the engine running while I was just moving cars around the driveway, etc. I always use the E brake out of habit so my car never moved. But I have indeed gotten out, thought it was in park while running, and then saw the reverse lights on as I walked behind it.

Re: New WK2 shifter handle for 2016 (pic)...

I like it actually. The only thing that I don't like about it is the fact that shifting into sport mode requires now a button press on the dash. On the old shifter I love when you can just nudge it into sport mode and go if you need to ...

Re: New WK2 shifter handle for 2016 (pic)...

The baggie leather boot just seems so out of place on a modern dash and console area is all. I'm just surprised they went that route... Must be the new Fiat influence and not the old Mercedes-Benz design direction.

I'd like to know as well.

The 2011-2013 models entered "Sport" mode by turning the "Mode" dial.
