Pure and simple, eh? So the instructions for the 11-13 MY make them defective as well?

Having instructions and requiring instructions are two very different things. But, never having driven an 11-13, I don't know -- is that shifter as balky and counterintuitive as the 14-15's is?

Odd I never need instructions for mine. It took me about a day to get it 100%. I'd hate to go back to a clunky old one now.

Mind you, I understand some folks get it and like it. But I drove one for two weeks and 1,000 miles this summer and never did get comfortable with it. That was what sealed my decision to wait for a '16.

New WK2 shifter handle for 2016 (pic)...

Just press the button and pull it all the way back for drive, press the button and push it all the way forward for park. Anything in between, press it one notch. It's not difficult to use. I'm assuming these people that are having a hard time with this current shifter also don't understand how to use their automatic window switch because that's basically how the shifter works.

Agreed. I don't think you should probably be behind the wheel in the first place if you can't handle the shifter, but what do I know?

Oh I could almost always get the gear I wanted by the second or third try - not that big a deal. But in my 50 years of driving, there have been a few times when I needed reverse RIGHT NOW with no room for error. I'll wait for the '16.

In lock step agreement with you Bubba. I'm prolly nowhere near as good a "driver" cause in 40,000 miles I haven't "mastered" gear selection in my 14. Forget my 40 years of driving just about the gamut of variations in shifters. I said it before, I'll say it again... NO KNOB!!! (ala Ram 1500). DO NOT put a sport mode button on the dash, I want it right NOW when I need sport mode. I can live with this new shifter if it can tactically transmit what gear I'm selecting. I agree about the boot because it indeed is not needed, but I'm not losing my mind over it. The console shifter lends an air of sportiness, but I'd really prefer a column shifter with the sport mode button integrated, ala Mercedes GL. I'd really appreciate a redesign of the center stack and console. #1 put ALL the damn Climate controls on the center stack and not split with the UConnect I have to wait to boot and do what IT wants to do, not what I want it to do. #2 Give me better cup holders and MORE and better storage. And for what it's worth those two items are way higher priority than the looks of a shifter switch.

. I put this link to the Canyanaro only for the previous post asking for better cup holders. That Simpsons episode is great especially when they design the new Canyanaro including Homer explaining how the cup holders need to be really big to hold big gulps.

Re: New WK2 shifter handle for 2016 (pic)...

Change for the sake of change isn't always a good thing.

The '14-'15 shifter was a total nightmare and is the #1 complaint after the refresh. I'd say the 2nd being the headlight washers

It has definitely had an impact on sales.

Plus, the '14-'15 shifter is very expen$ive.

This makes most happy and costs less money.

IMO, even if this operated the same as the old one, it at least looks MUCH more visually appealing, IMO. Dunno why some hate it. At least you know WHAT that is, the eShifter looked like a toy or an infotainment controller.

[QUOTE=67HR;1239774]

I do like my MY14 shifter. My hand rest comfortably on it.

I love it. Like resting your hand on a Throttle. Just needs a couple of extra switches. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1448270535.541527.jpg

+1 on the issues with the 2014-15 shifter.

Getting it into Drive and Park are easy. Much harder & less reliable is getting into Reverse from Drive. And has someone who backs into parking spots 99% of the time, I hate the unreliable & unintuitive nature of the shifter. I get shift from Drive to Reverse about 85-90% of the time on the first try. But IMHO, that is not good enough. Selecting a gear Should Not require Trial & Error, nor a steep learning curve.

Everyone saying the 2014-15 shifters are great & have no issues are wrong. The FACT that FCA decided to change it on the 2016 models is proof that it was an issue for enough folks.
