So yesterday morning I go to my garage and notice the step ladder that was hanging on the wall is now leaning against my jeep. I knew this was not goining to be good. Sure enough the ladder fell and dented the driver's side front fender. Ok not so bad, I can get that fixed. Then this morning I am driving down a two way street a big oil truck coming the other way so I pull to one side to let him pass and then crunch, I curbed my front wheel. Can you say pissed! I have two questions? Has anyone used a do it yourself dent fixer, like Dent Out, also anybody know of a good wheel repair business near Philly?
That sucks, man! I've been there, though. For the dent, I'd take it to a body shop and let them get it done. I've done the "at-home repairs" in the past and ended up looking at an "OK" repair for a few months before just taking it in anyway. A few hundred bucks to have your Jeep back to new is worth it, in my opinion. And if they have a professional dent-remover on-site it's actually pretty cheap. You're only saving a hundred bucks or so once you get all the gear, and then you need to spend the time on it.
As for curbing the wheel, that's the biggest reason I went with the ORA/18s on my Overland. The polished 18s are bland as heck but I've had enough larger rims to know the dangers of curbs at drive thrus and parking lots. But the last time I curbed a rim I took it into a repair shop and for $125 my $500 rim looked brand-new again. That was in Phoenix, though.
man that suck! I feel your pain regarding the dent. I have a similar issue going on with mine from the shopping cart dent in the drivers door. only mines missing paint to, so they have to repaint the door. dropping it off monday at the body shop to be fixed.
I would definitely go with a body shop for the dent, especially if its in an area you will see everytime you get in the jeep. I can't wait to get mine fixed, it urks the crap out of me every time i get in its the first thing is see!
I jsut added some pics, I know it's not the end of the world, but it just pisses me off, I take really good care of my cars. Knowing that damage is there will bother me until it is fixed.
Paintless Dent Repair is available through most body shops and also independently. My local PDR guy comes to your address and charges about $50-$75 for simple dents. I had him work all of my parking lot dings and a large crease in a rocker panel out of my last car. He did it in the parking lot at my work and only charged $175 for everything! Looked much better (all dings gone, and the crease gone enough that it wasn't noticed when I traded that car in on the WK2).
have a good body shop do pdr on the dent. looks likes they should be able to get to it by peeling back the fender liner for no more the $80. you could also ask the body shop about repairing the wheel.
Your wheels look like mine. I got it on the drivers side when I parked the car. Since I street park, though, I expect them to start looking worse as the years progress.
I feel your pain. I hate when things like that happen. I would also say check your local pdr guys and for the rim you could get it fixed by one of these mobile wheel fix it companies if you have them around you.
So I got one estimate so for $90 for the PDR on the fender and $100-$150 to repair the wheel from a local shop. Does this seem reasonable? I was quoted this price from email pics, I did not bring it to them in person.
Out of curiosity, how are the wheels repaired? It looks like there are gouges in the metal. Do they fill in the gouges with metal, even it all out, then re-coat the wheel? If so, then $150 sounds like a great deal (although I have nothing with which to compare it)!

They are not deep gouges, they are just deep scratchs. So I think they can sand them down, prime and repaint/clearcoat just the damaged area. I don't think they have to redo the whole wheel, at least that's what I have read on how it's done, again they are going off pics I sent them. So once I bring it to them, they can give me a better estimate on what needs to be done. I did stop at a second bodyshop and they quoted me $400 to do the repairs. They would need to bring someone in to do the PDR and would send the wheel out to be repaired. the first place I talked to can do it all in their shop, so maybe that't why they are cheaper.
