Re: Newbie Here

This V6 is better than the previous models and does great. If you routinely drive 80+ mph on the highway, you may miss some of the top end power of the V8. If you like the sound of a V8 you will miss the hemi. If these are a don't care, then you will love the V6, as it gives you 1 or 2 more mpg.

Welcome

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the V6. It's an impressive engine

Re: Newbie Here

I'm making the same decision, coming from a 2005 WK Limited Hemi and looking at a 2012 Summit. I drive ~5k miles a year, don't tow anything, live in Philly and most of the miles are driving on weekends to and from the suburbs, which is highway for a while and then, well, suburbs. Current mpg is atrocious, and gas is more expensive than 2004 when I ordered the WK Hemi, so I'm thinking of getting the V6 in 2012. I wonder whether I'll miss the kick in the pants from the V8, but I'm thinking I mostly won't notice the difference between 330 hp in the WK Hemi and 290 in the WK2 V6. Thoughts?

Opinions will vary whether the V6 or V8 is the best choice. Honestly, you would need to test drive both and form your own opinion. I don't have anything to tow but I would go with a V8. The fuel economy ratings are close but I would rather have the power when needed. For you is it worth the extra $2k. For me it is.

Did you order the Jeep or one from the dealers inventory? If you haven't taken delivery ask the sales person to provide a V8 model for a test drive.

Regards,
NHman

I don't think you made a mistake, especially with only 5K miles per year. That's probably only about a 1/3 of what the average user would put on a vehicle. If you're driving only 5K miles per year, no towing, or not travelling through steep grades where you might like some extra passing power, I think you made a wise choice.

I went in with the intent of getting the V6 since I do a 40% City 60% Highway. But, I also take a lot of road trips in the Rockies. I was coming from a V6 powered Sport Trac that could maintain speed or even accelerate up steep grades. But, the WK2 is a heavier vehicle so after driving a V6 and V8 WK2, I went for the V8. It has performed well on steep grades, plenty of passing power.

Re: Newbie Here

I went to the dealer with intentions of buying the V6. I test drove both on the open highway and ended up buying the V8. I felt the heaviness of the GC in the V6. I put only about 10k a year. Very happy with my choice! Plus the dual exhaust look pretty sharp!
