Why are you sold in the diesel, have you seen the gas v6 mileage and price of gas lately? I get it if you tow very often otherwise makes zero sense with all the extra cost up front and maintenance

In Oz fuel is a lot dearer so diesel makes sense, but even if fuel was cheap the diesel power and relaxed feel makes it easy and relaxed to drive. The low down grunt and launch off line is awesome. I drag just about anything off at the lights and still 10lt/100.

thanks for your thoughts!

I didn't want the quadra lift for a couple of reasons. Longevity/drivability of the air springs is questionable, there are other threads and other forums that report issues. I have full intention of installing an ARB OME suspension system for increased suspension travel & ride height and the quadra lift would negate that. With all of the other potential gremlins that could invariably pop up in these cars, the choice to eliminate a expensive questionable option was welcomed. Decreasing the purchase price by eliminating said option was also great.

Quadralift is not questionable unless you read some old posts by the Toyota trolls that were on here early on. Most if not all the early issues were fixed with software changes to the body control module IIRC.

A lot of people including myself just don't want QL. It's pointless for those of us who want to lift or lower permanently.

Those of in Oz can't understand why anyone would want a petrol vehicle.
In Oz unleaded fuel is current running at 1.59.9 per liter and our unleaded fuel is crap to say the least.
We also have lots of huge distances
Just makes more sense to go diesel

I didn't notice your location prior to posting that. In the US gasoline is $2.75usd / gallon currently. Not sure what that converts to for you guys so lets figure it out:

1 gallon is 3.78541 liters
1 US dollar converts to 1.14 AUD right now.

so it would be 3.13 AUD / 1 us gallon of petrol

or

.82 AUD / liter of petrol

So you can see why in the US diesel doesn't make sense since it is more expensive upfront and costs more at the pump and maintenance. Unless of course you tow frequently.

Re: newbie here, thinking of buying, suggestions?

In the US, many folks buy diesels because they want to buy a diesel...it's not about fuel cost or maintenance cost or anything else. It's because for them, it's the right choice. It's not about "making sense" to anyone else.

newbie here, thinking of buying, suggestions?

Yea the 1 % of the new car sales a year are diesels in the US. Clearly what makes sense to the 99% is gasoline here. That's the point I'm making.

Diesels in other countries are more favorable because of the factors in those environments and their price.

Clearly there are people that defy sensible choices though. Just not enough to make a difference in the US marketplace. So really not sure what you quantify "many" as...

In your location gasoline may be $2.75/gallon, but not everywhere - which you seem to be pointing out in your blanket statement....again.

Yea it actually is cheaper than that elsewhere lol what's your point? It was 15 cents cheaper than that on my trip down the whole east coast so I have a pretty good bearing on price right now. From New England to Florida.

Regardless it's still substantially cheaper than overseas using a national average of 3.20

Gasoline is still $3.39 locally and $3.59 across the street from that station...(regular) Diesel is $3.69.
