Question Newbie Question on Ordering

I am pretty new to this forum and have gotten tons of great info from you all. I'm almost certainly going to order an Overland this month - my first Jeep! Hemi, Adaptive Cruise Control, and maybe, Off Road. Will be looking for the TL Affiliate pricing. If I order, does that lock-in the price or will I be subject to a price increase during my waiting period? Also, what sort of deposit, if any, is typical? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

It varies widely from dealer to dealer. IMO, a $500 deposit is not too much, but it should be refundable. There could be problems that would warrant a refund if your Jeep arrived without ordered components or damaged. Talk to your dealer, I'm sure they are willing to work with you.

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

I ordered my Overland the other day. I gave them a $250 deposit I have a buyers order as well with all the prices, taxes, fee's etc etc. So I would imagine that price is locked in and my signature is on it as well. TL pricing seems pretty good but I actually negotiated even lower than that without it.

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

Thanks to both of you, that's helpful. JTS: Was the dealer willing to offer any kind of time estimate for delivery?

When I placed the order they didn't ask for a deposit but once it's in D1 status (Scheduled) we will do a buyers order and I'll leave a deposit. Hopefully that's next week!.

It's non-refundable in the sense that I can't simply say, "oops, I've changed my mind" There are legitimate "outs" that are written into the buyers order that protect me if they can't deliver. I don't have a problem with that.

The deposit and buyers order also protects them in case Jeep does an audit. Some local dealers got in trouble for putting in "Sold Orders" under fictitious names to get vehicles in advance of their "for stock" orders.

They quoted me 6 - 8 weeks for delivery since I don't have anything "special" on the order but of course Jeep could have an issue with any component and stop the line and they have no control over that.

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

Yeah seems like all dealers do it differently. In my case we filled out and signed the buyers order right there on the spot with all price information such as vehicle price, taxes, license, doc fee etc etc. So thats a done deal. My deposit of $250 is non-refundable, but if something happens worst case $250 isnt the end of the world.

So to sum it up in my case the deposit, buyers order, and actual vehicle order was all done that same visit. I also have the vehicle order sheet here with the VON number that was given right away as he ordered it. I dont have the VIN yet but I will be checking up on that occasionally.

The dealership gave me a rough estimate on delivery time he said 8-10 weeks but that was coming from the salesman who probably knows less about the Jeep and overall transaction than I do. I pretty much taught him everything about the Grand Cherokee there lol. I will post back once I get the VIN and get it tracked maybe that will give a better idea on delivery time. It was ordered a few days ago on 1-4-11. The specs for my order are below in my sig. No saddle interior obviously (since you cant order that).

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

You mind if I ask what you are paying before TT+L. I'm also looking at an Overland with the following:

V8
4X4
dark charcoal pearl exterior
black interior
offroad adventure II package

The msrp is $44,960, including destination. Per truecar, the best local price for my area is $41,061 with $42k being the average paid. I emailed several dealers and none seem to even get close to $42k, let alone $41k. I did this when shopping for previous vehicles and got great results. I certainly understand that this is in high demand, especially the Overland model, but so far off and I also read on this forum that quite a few paid around $41k for similar specs.

So much depends on where you live that it's really impossible to use this forum as a guide. Add to that there were incentives available in places like the Great Lakes states as well as returning customer coupons that I think expired on 1/3 and pricing is anyone's guess.

Invoice on that should be $42245 and Affiliate pricing would be $41823 (do a search on Treadlightly or go to http://www.treadlightly.org/page.php/chrysler_discount). Without any other discounts (the dealer may have other marketing dollars or incentives you'll never know about) that's probably the best deal you will find. Anything less and the dealer is eating into their holdback profit and regardless what others say, dealers don't typically do that.

Sure no problem the MSRP is $45,980 (not sure how your MSRP is over a thousand less than mine and you added the offroad package). But anyway, MSRP of $45,980 I ended up paying $41,225 +ttl. That was the best deal I could get in the Chicago area I emailed tons of dealers directly to the sales managers. Some dealers wouldnt go under $43 so its weird how some will work with you and some wont. Some even said there is no way I can get one for $41. Sure enough I did. No trade in, no coupons or anything, no tread lightly. No negotiating in person either I did it all by email until I got the cheapest one. Funny thing is the best deal I got was from the dealership only 1.8 miles from my house! Worked out awesome!
Hope that helps you. The specs for my Jeep are in my sig below.

James

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

James - I think BigBlue is not looking at the Adaptive Cruise option, which may account for the MSRP difference. BigBlue: where are you located?

Ohh woops your right I forgot about that. Yeah adaptive cruise is like a $1,300 option so that would make your numbers correct.

Thanks,
James

Re: Newbie Question on Ordering

Right, no adaptive cruise. Can't remember the last time I actually use the cruise control.

I live in NJ.

I'm just surprised by the dealers' response. I understand they need to feed their families and keep the lights on. But from what I am seeing here and truecar, that price is doable. I guess one other variable is the dealers who are offering them at around $41k, they may do huge volume and get even bigger incentives from Chrysler.
