Re: Next 2014 GC Service due at 1000 miles.

I've had my new jeep approximately 6 weeks and will have 6,000 miles on it later today. The bulk of my mileage is highway mileage. Given that this is the first oil change, I'm inclined to change it at 6,000 miles, but from there on out, I'm more than will to trust the evic. I believe I'm sitting right at 50% right now and maybe a little higher than that.

Re: Next 2014 GC Service due at 1000 miles.

The only car I ever had that warned against changing the oil early was Acura. So, I don't see anything wrong with changing it now.

The old theory about getting any particles out of the original oil is a bit off the wall IMHO. If there is any damaging debris in the oil, and considering the number of revolutions the engine already has on it, any damage would already be done.

The most important reason for an early oil change is owner's peace of mind. If it makes somebody feel good it's worth the price. The car has no feelings, so it doesn't care.

If you DIY, make sure you get the right filter for the 2014 pentastar. It's reportedly different, there are a few threads that bring it up, like this one:

First oil change for my '14 didn't go so well..

Re: Next 2014 GC Service due at 1000 miles.

I found the filter for the 14's at autoplicity.com for 8 bucks. Going to go check how much they are at the dealer before ordering 2 from there. Figure ill be using them about once a year.

My reasoning behind switching the oil is to put synthetic in. I've never been a fan of regular oil, especially with the 10,000 change interval. It just seems a bit much to keep regular oil in an enigine.

Re: Next 2014 GC Service due at 1000 miles.

My dealer suggested oil change at 3500 miles which I did. It made me feel better!
OTH my dealer also suggested spark plug change at 30,000 mile service which caused me to choke on my free donut. Thanks to dealer's free Wi-Fi I was able to show them on the Jeep website that was b.s.

Some engines have a break-in additive and/or a specific oil used for the initial cycles of the engine. Thus I would follow the manual for the first change.

The oil filter job is to remove bits before returning to the engine.

Some folks still think they are living in the 1950's. Some are too cheap to change the oil when it really needs it. The manufacturer wants the engine to last without calling for excessive maintenance. That seems like the best balance.

Believe what is in the user manual, and what the EVIC tells you. Cars have come a long way, and manufacturers have an interest in the motor lasting a while. Dealers have an interest in you spending more money.

Fuel filters will prevent dangerous particles from recycling into the engine, and possible additives may help your engine break in.

Re: Next 2014 GC Service due at 1000 miles.

I have changed the oil at 1000 Mile. I prefer while they check other things as well. it is only $30 not bad.
