Re: Next generation JGC MY2017?

Will the GC still have a hemi with the future CAFE regulations?

Maybe in a Grand Wagoneer, with a footprint expanded 56 sf. (but I doubt they'd make the GC that big).

They've already taken the Hemi badging off the outside, now it's just a 5.7L. I think the Hemi will only be associated with the big footprint vehicles (and maybe lower volume SRT).

What will they have instead? I don't know, a boosted V6? Maybe a smaller displacement, high reving pentastar V8? Maybe a whole new line of direct injection engines?

They'll probably continue with the new diesel... maybe more people would buy it if there wasn't a hemi option?

If there isnt a "big" displacment motor (v8) I will definitely be looking at the diesel but I still have my fingers crossed for a 6.4 option in the overland or limited trims with the OAR-II package.

Re: Next generation JGC MY2017?

Honestly, what got me into a jeep was a v8 SUV at the 50k price point. If they drop that and I'm forced to choose a v6 I'm getting an Acura mdx or something like that. The Hemi was the difference for me. Other suv's with a v8 as nice as the jeep are 60-80k. Take that from me and I'm gone. Please don't do it jeep!!!

Re: Next generation JGC MY2017?

The merc GL has a footprint of roughly 55 s.f. I think they'll do the same with the grand wagoneer, and maybe keep the hemi as long as they're making it for the trucks.

I wouldn't expect to see a hemi in the next GC though. They're next v8 should be better than fords 5L coyote though. Not the same low end torque for towing, but with lots of gears it'll perform well and get better fuel economy (like a pentastar). Or maybe they'll stick with the push rods like gm?

If you want to bank on the old reliable hemi, you might want to consider a 2016.

I'm purely speculating... based on the stricter CAFE standards.

In the form of what Milous has already spoken of...

All this crazy talk of turbocharged V6s, etc are not happening.

Guys, CAFE is not based on EPA mileage figures.

Re: Next generation JGC MY2017?

I'm new around here... Do you have a link to what Milous has spoke of?

I thought CAFE actually got their data from EPA. Regardless, whatever they build for 2017 will probably have to last them until at least 2022 (with minor updates). I'm thinking less weight and less displacement.

In the future, even more tow vehicles will trucks... Even if towing only accounts for less than 5% of their duty (for the occasional weekend camper like me).
