Next generation JGC MY2017?

I currently have a 2012 Grand Cherokee that I am contemplating trading in for a 2014. We all know or at least tend to believe that there will not be many changes to the MY2015 and now I am reading MY2016 is the final year for this generation JCG. With that being said then MY 2017 would be a completely redesigned platform. My question is if I were to lease a MY2014 now , how many actual calendar months/years would it be from this point until the MY2017's hit the road?

I think the re designed 11's hit lots mid to late summer 2010, the refreshed 14's were on lots in early 2013 I believe(I've seen some January 13 builds) So basically what I'm saying is if we are lucky the 17's will be available early in 2016, but probably no later than mid summer.

Obviously no one knows just yet. We can't even figure out what changes are included in the 15's yet ....

My wife was able to extend her 2010 Honda CR-V lease on a monthly basis after the initial 36 months end lease. Not sure if Chrysler has this option. She did this for the same reason as you described. She kept it an extra two months.

As I was wondering about purchasing the extended/lifetime service contract I was thinking about the MY2017. Maybe I should consider trading in after 4 years, get a 2nd year Fresh Jeep, and ride out the next 5 years in style.

Then again, who knows what 2017 will bring, we may be headed into CUV territory (more than we have already).

I see the Cherokee has a the Lane Sense lane departure warning system. Perhaps n the GC soon too?

I was looking at the info on the Cherokee and I gotta tell you, had I wanted a slightly smaller SUV I would be all over it. Jeep did a great job even though my first thought of the front was not positive, I like it now.

Will the GC still have a hemi with the future CAFE regulations?

Maybe in a Grand Wagoneer, with a footprint expanded 56 sf. (but I doubt they'd make the GC that big).

They've already taken the Hemi badging off the outside, now it's just a 5.7L. I think the Hemi will only be associated with the big footprint vehicles (and maybe lower volume SRT).

What will they have instead? I don't know, a boosted V6? Maybe a smaller displacement, high reving pentastar V8? Maybe a whole new line of direct injection engines?

They'll probably continue with the new diesel... maybe more people would buy it if there wasn't a hemi option?

V8s will continue.

Honestly, what got me into a jeep was a v8 SUV at the 50k price point. If they drop that and I'm forced to choose a v6 I'm getting an Acura mdx or something like that. The Hemi was the difference for me. Other suv's with a v8 as nice as the jeep are 60-80k. Take that from me and I'm gone. Please don't do it jeep!!!

The merc GL has a footprint of roughly 55 s.f. I think they'll do the same with the grand wagoneer, and maybe keep the hemi as long as they're making it for the trucks.

I wouldn't expect to see a hemi in the next GC though. They're next v8 should be better than fords 5L coyote though. Not the same low end torque for towing, but with lots of gears it'll perform well and get better fuel economy (like a pentastar). Or maybe they'll stick with the push rods like gm?

If you want to bank on the old reliable hemi, you might want to consider a 2016.

I'm purely speculating... based on the stricter CAFE standards.

I'm new around here... Do you have a link to what Milous has spoke of?

I thought CAFE actually got their data from EPA. Regardless, whatever they build for 2017 will probably have to last them until at least 2022 (with minor updates). I'm thinking less weight and less displacement.

In the future, even more tow vehicles will trucks... Even if towing only accounts for less than 5% of their duty (for the occasional weekend camper like me).
