Re: Nice fill up after record MPG trip

On my 2400 mile trip, I found that speed had EVERYTHING to do with the MPG you will get. Once you get over the 70+ mph range the MPG drops rapidly. I was getting 25+ MPG when I stayed around 70 MPH (due to bad traffic) but I only got around 19-21 when doing 80+ MPH.

If you are driving 55 (I don't know how anyone can do that - drives me crazy to go that slow) then you will probably see 25+ MPG.

Running 90+ in Wyoming didn't help my overall MPG, LOL.

Re: Nice fill up after record MPG trip

I'm looking at a map and see that it is all downhill as in "I'm driving down to Jersey." "I'm driving up to Boston" is uphill.
Seriously, I have the 5 speed and got 25mpg with 8 suitcases and wife (Don't say it, I know what you are thinking.) on Mass Pike heading east the width of MA earlier this month at 67mph. Only a slight tail wind to no wind.

read a while back that US dept of energy reckons that every 10% speed increase = 15% worse fuel consumption so if 60 = 25mpg, 66 = 22, 73 = 19mpg etc.

At highway speeds aerodynamics is the biggest problem any vehicle has

Re: Nice fill up after record MPG trip

Short of a Diesel, the V-6 achieving anything from 22-25 MPG is pretty darned good... better fuel economy than (but, as expected, not as much raw power as) the V-8's. A few years ago, even mentioning mid-20's fuel economy on a GC would have brought some skeptical laughter.

We are planning a run from central NY to northern VA soon - will try to report back on how my wife's 2014 Limited V-6 does.

Id agree with that. Maybe even worse. My old car would average around 31 at 75mph on the 600 mile trip to Fl. If traffic or the weather was bad and I stayed around 65mph, 37-39mpg was certainly doable!

The jeep being a big vehicle requires a much greater amount of power to push it through the air as speeds increase. Still 25mpg is certainly very good!!
