From an official announcement about the forthcoming ZF 9-speed box, which reportedly is to incorporate some interesting new technology, it appears it is not scheduled for the GC:
Also coming in 2013 is a fuel-saving nine-speed automatic transmission that will first become available on the sedan that will replace the Dodge Caliber compact in April 2013, with minivans to follow. Marchionne made the announcement at an event here to celebrate the launch of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.
I'm not seeing the problem. A Caliber replacement won't have the Pentastar engine. The minivans might, but my guess is that this transmission is for smaller engines- trying to attach it to the 3.6L V-6 or (heaven forbid) the Hemi will only end in complete and utter disaster.
Sensible comments, but if the 6/9 speed boxes aren't appropriate, we're still left guessing when (if?) the ZF-8 will appear in the WK2. Somebody at Chrysler has a PERT-type chart schedule to know when production will start and fully ramp up to handle all models.

No chance the 8 speed will get into MY2012 WK2s... latest rumors saying possibly we will see the 8 speed on the MY2013 (Fall 2012), but CRD may not get it until 1st quarter 2013.
